► Tell us about you and your podcast
I'm Cara and I'm a bestselling romance author of more than 30 books, including one that was made into a Lifetime Original Movie, and together with my husband, PJ, we chat with established and up and coming romance and rom-com writers. We talk about the writing process, their inspiration, and what readers might be surprised to know!
Our podcast is for fans of romance novels and compelling stories with happy endings! Here's a chance to put a little more Happily Ever After in your life, and find out a little more about your favorite writers.
► Why & how did you start this podcast?
PJ and I both used to work in radio and love the medium of podcasts. We absolutely listen to other podcasts: everything from true crime to comedy and advice.
We started this podcast as a way to connect readers to other authors, and also for the fun of talking to the authors ourselves! I also feel it's a great way to cross-market our books, so that my readers can find other authors they like!
We began interviewing for the podcast in July 2022, and released our first episode in September.
► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
We release an episode weekly. It takes a few days to record and produce an episode. We both work from home (he owns a shipping franchise, and I write novels) and so we work in podcast interviews and production in between other tasks and on the weekends.
We spend several hundred a month, I'd say, on hosting and marketing. Right now, we do fund the podcast ourselves.
► What do you gain from podcasting?
We don't currently have a sponsor, but would love to have one.
Podcasting is an amazing tool, and I love how much I learn from our guests. I've been writing novels for twenty years, but writing is a learning process, and there's always something to learn!
► How does your podcasting process look like?
We use Alitu for editing, and Buzzsprout for hosting. We use a Rode soundboard for recording. My husband prepares each episode, and we interview guests via Zoom.
Some guests are personal friends of mine from the publishing industry, but others I've met online. I just ask nicely!
► How do you market your show?
We find our listeners everywhere, but don't have a breakdown. We market on Overcast, which has been helpful.
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
I think the best advice I can give is before you launch, make sure you've got multiple interviews already recorded and ready to go. Also, launch with more than one episode!
