► Tell us about you and your podcast
This podcast is to support victims of sexual & domestic abuse. I have guests on my show who are from diverse professions & backgrounds who all contribute their own teachings to inspire and help us all. If you are stuck in your pain, unsure of how to even begin addressing all of the heartache and trauma of which you endured, I need you to know that healing is possible. I, and many former victims before you, have found the strength and hope to rise from the past and to create something magnificent for ourselves and for the people around us. Gain empowerment and control over your life with the many strategies and techniques that have helped me to move on. You can turn it around too. I hope that you find this show to be of value. ► Why & how did you start this podcast?
I started this podcast in January 2021 after my book had been published in October 2020 of the same name. As a survivor of sexual and domestic abuse, I wanted to not only share my story with other survivors but to offer a platform where they could come on to share their stories of survival and how they managed to overcome the obstacles of life. We grow by learning from others and podcasts are a fantastic platform for this.
► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
My scheduling ranges from 1 or 2 episodes published per week. This is dependant upon my own work schedule and I tend to record either at lunch times or in the evening once my son is in bed. Once an episode is recorded, I then send this off to my editor to master before I publish the episode. I also publish episodes on YouTube platform and I have a helper to assist with this also as there is a lot of time required for each and every episode and I am so grateful that I have some help so that I can spend more time on recording which is what I enjoy the most.
► What do you gain from podcasting?
Podcasting has been a passion of mine since I started and I am looking to collaborate more with sponsors in the near future. I have learnt so much about my niche area which has proven to be very valuable as I am also a trauma therapist in training so by having expert guests on my show has enhanced my knowledge and expertise in this area.
► How does your podcasting process look like?
I feel grateful that I have had so many amazing guests on my show to share their wisdom with my listeners. I have a list of guests who I am looking to have on my show in due course though I am still busy scheduling those who have contacted me. I carry out all of my talks via zoom as the majority of my guests are from all over the world and I am based in the UK. Prior to recording, I usually ask my guests to send me all relevant information about themselves which would help me to prepare the questions that I am to ask them.
► How do you market your show?
44% of my listeners tune into my episodes from Apple Podcasts. I usually promote each episode on Facebook, instagram, twitter and linkedin.
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
I would recommend anybody who is looking to start a podcast to go for it and don't hold back. When my friend suggested me to start a podcast, I questioned myself thinking that I would not have anything to say. As time went on, so much has come to me to be of value to my listeners and the topics yet still to cover are endless. It has helped that I am currently specialising in this field of trauma so I would recommend you all to continue reading, learning and growing during the process.
