► Tell us about you and your podcast
I have a bachelor degree in biological and medical science and I have worked in the healthcare field for over a decade. I use my education and experience to deliver non-biased information to people who want to live healthy and improve their quality of life.
My podcast is centered around living a healthy lifestyle. I talk about all things healthy, from nutrition, eating organic, weight loss, health, exercise, and the latest trends on overall fitness.
My listeners are those who wish to make conscious, viable, healthy decisions to stay fit, healthy, and ailment free. I provide content and information for all listeners in all age ranges and all walks of life.
► Why & how did you start this podcast?
Podcasts in my opinion are the way of the future, the same way e books are becoming more popular than printed books. In our busy lives it is easier for a person to listen to a podcast to get the information they need while on the go. In my leisure time I listen to some health podcasts and on a less serious note an occasional comedy podcast.
When I would go shopping at organic food stores I would always pick up the magazines they have so I could stay up on the latest in health, nutrition, and fitness. When the the pandemic started a lot of those magazines (produced locally) were not available. With the push to avoid contact with objects unless necessary. I decided to start a podcast and stay up on the latest trends in health as the pandemic led to lockdowns which limited most things to online access.
I started my podcast February of 2021.
It took me about 2 weeks to put out my first episode, setting up a recording room, recording, and learning how to edit are not the easiest things. But if you are serious and determined, it becomes second nature as you learn and build your skills all while doing something that you love.
► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
The Living Healthy Podcast is a biweekly podcast and it takes about a week to gather information, a couple of days to format it, and a few hours to record and edit.
I am actually working on several different things and it can become daunting but I love health and I love podcasting. So it does not seem strenuous to me as I make time to deliver the content that I have promised to my listeners.
Currently I fund my own podcast, It costs quite a bit to advertise, but it is necessary to get my voice out to listeners as I want the podcast to grow. Advertising can be as little as $30.00 per week to $300.00 per week. Sometimes you have to experiment with different social media platforms and different amounts to see what works best.
► What do you gain from podcasting?
Yes I welcome sponsorships as it can get expensive advertising my podcast. Currently the only sponsor I have is from Anchor, who happens to be my podcast hosting platform.
My first sponsorship came from Anchor as they offer to sponsor you when you sign up. I accepted their sponsorship from my very first episode when I initially started and I had about 20 downloads per month back then.
I am actively seeking additional sponsors and as my audience has grown in the 7 months since I have been podcasting I have just over 120 downloads per month.
Podcasting has benefited me tremendously, when I research and read many of the research articles that I source. It is easier for me to understand what they are talking about, as my background allows me to understand the technical terms and the science behind the findings.
► How does your podcasting process look like?
I use Microsoft Word, Audacity, sound deadening material, and a Yeti microphone. I have not interviewed anyone yet, but I ask for those who wish to be on the show to e mail me at livinghealthylivinghealthy@gmail.com
I have topics already determined, I then create an outline and then begin typing.
I am actively looking for guests and given the spike in Covid-19 cases I think it will be easier to do the interview virtually. My plan is to submit the questions to the guest in a recording and they would record their answers and send them back. I would then edit and make the podcast.
► How do you market your show?
The Living Healthy Podcast is 15 different platforms, I am actively trying to get it onto other platforms as well. So far the majority of my listeners are from iHeart Radio at 37% then the breakdown of the other 63% is among the other 14 platforms.
So far running ads on Twitter and Pinterest seem to be the most useful. I am actively looking at advertising on other social media platforms to reach more people.
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
Podcasting is not as easy as it may seem and I have a lot of respect for those who are making their show their livelihood. At least for me there is a lot that goes into making a show. I try to give people the information that I would be interested in and I feel that knowledge is power. If people have more access to information regarding their health. Then they can make decisions about improving their health and adding quality years to their lives.
I don't currently have a blog, I write articles for Hubpages on health and nutrition. As my audience grows I plan on making a blog and offering exclusive content via Patreon.
