Paper Confession
A month ago today, I was arrested and imprisoned.
Because it is a crime according to paragraph 213 of the penal code to want to go to the West. The attempt is punishable by prison.
There is no doubt about my guilt. After all, I confessed to having written “Let's Go West” on a piece of paper.
Beside…
Surviving the Shadows
I continue our conversation from yesterday about what he knows about “real prisons.” No one knows anything for sure, Andi evades.
There are remand centers, youth work centers, youth homes, penitentiaries, and at least one military prison in Schwedt on the border with Poland.
The Stasi runs a remand…
Let’s Go West
42, the answer to all questions in Douglas Adams' “The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy,” is the number of days I've been locked up in Domstraße in Greifswald since the beginning of January.
Because I wrote “Let's Go West!” on a piece of paper and wanted to take the Reichsbahn to Wuppertal.
I wonde…

My seventh Sunday in prison. Like yesterday, there is no smell of Bakelite. Instead, Buna and Leuna are on my mind.
At school, we were slowly but surely groomed for careers in one of the two chemical plants.
From fourth to seventh grade, I was one of the ambitious students.
That only changed with t…

The Good Life in a GDR Cell
Unlike his “previous tenant” Andi, “Blaschi” reacted with complete indifference to my quiet singing last night. A loud fart from his exhaust pipe pleased him more.

Komet — When Udo Lindenberg and Apache 207 Touched the Stars
In 2023, two very different stars collided. On one side: Udo Lindenberg, the eccentric rocker who’s been shaping German music since the 1970s. On the other: Apache 207, the young hip-hop megastar with a voice that melts pop, rap, and R&B into one.
Their song ‘Komet’ didn’t just chart — it rewrote G…
