► Tell us about you and your podcast
Dilip Shankar and Puneeta Roy are from Karmic Research Centre (krcindia.org). We have two podcasts: KRC Guided Meditations - Violet Gold Room, and we have recently submitted a new weekly 'Kabir - Voice of Love'. KRC Guided Meditations - Violet Gold Room is guided meditations channeled from an ascended Master, Gurudev. These are soothing meditations for anyone who is seeking. The other one, Kabir - Voice of Love is sharing inspirations for daily living, as also for spiritual growth through the couplets of the poet Kabir. Our listeners are all over the world - from 16 year olds in india to 80 year old friends in Texas!
► Why & how did you start this podcast?
During the Covid lockdown, people in the USA, Europe, India, Dubai asked us to send them meditations. We found the best way was to send them meditations as podcasts. That's how we began in March 2020. So the initial goal was to share a meditation a day. We did that quite effortlessly from the first episode. We did not expect our listenership to reach people we did not know! Soon we were getting messages from allover the world! Which is what motivated us to start a next podcast ie Kabir - Voice of Love. We took much longer to develop this one, and have collaborated with Avik Roy, a young music director to create sound scapes to go with what is being shared as spoken word.
► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
We are happy to share these with the world and do not expect any monetary gain. If anyone would like to contribute, they can write to us and we can share how they can donate to the work we do in the community. Podcasting is time consuming if you care, which we do. So, an episode can take anything from a day to a week to get ready, depending on what is being shared. So yes a lot of time is invested. But we do it for our joy, and hope people like it. We do have other jobs, and the work we do in the community - but somehow the time works itself out if you really commit to it. We spend around INR 5000 per episode. We fund it ourselves. Thankful that we can.
► What do you gain from podcasting?
We do not take sponsorship. We do this for the Intent of spreading joy and awareness. We are on a search, and we would like to connect with likeminded folks allover the world!
► How does your podcasting process look like?
For KRC Guided Meditations: The Violet Gold Room, we have been recording ourselves on our phones. Puneeta last week recorded a meditation on a new Zoom mic although I prefer the phone recordings. She sends Dilip her recording via email or whatsapp! Then Dilip puts music. We commissioned young artistes Safar Rang, Avik Roy, Aseem to create background tracks for the music. We also use the tracks Anchor provides. For Kabir-Voice of Love, Dilip records the singing and the spoken word on his phone, sends it to Avik, who then creates the track, and sends Dilip the Mastered track via email. Its an intricate process in both, and we thoroughly enjoy it!
► How do you market your show?
We have the shows on our website krcindia.org, we also share on facebook whatever we create. We also share links on whatsapp and via email and FB messenger. We have a lot of listeners on Spotify, Apple podcasts, Google podcasts. The word of mouth, and listeners sharing with their families and friends has also helped. We are still very small in terms of numbers, but frankly, we weren't expecting that thousands of people would tune into us in the first place!
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
We found a number of guides along the way and learnt as we went along. Starting with Anchor for KRC Guided Meditations: Violet Gold Room was helpful as it is designed for beginners. We had first named the show just VIolet Gold Room. Then an experienced podcaster advised us that we must have the term Meditations in the title! So we added the KRC Guided Meditations to the title! By the time we launched Kabir - Voice of Love on podbean, which is a paid host, we were a little more experienced, and hopefully, we will be able to learn more about spreading the word. We are still very small, and need all the guidance!
