► Tell us about you and your podcast
I just sit down and talk with some really interesting people. I'll give some examples to help explain: One guest spent 7 years in Colombia following the path of a kilo of cocaine, one was in the 2002 Venezuelan coup, one called from Uruguay about an insane hacker story, one is a 100+ gold/platinum producer, ones a flat earther, and one episode even had a guest calling in from death row.
► Why & how did you start this podcast?
I started as an audio engineer on the radio and have been hooked ever since. I've always been fascinated with learning things and have met tons of people from all sorts of backgrounds over my lifetime. So, I got the idea to take podcasting and use it as a tool to talk with these interesting people. It's opened up doors I never would have dreamed of already, and I'm excited to see what doors will open next.
COVID made things harder ones the studio closed down. The station offered to ship equipment, but it was such a hassle with sharing it that I said screw it and bought my own gear. Honestly a blessing ina disguise as I went from interview locals to interviewing authors and ted speakers and some really crazy guests.
► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
LMAOO... having time. Man imagine that. Ya, all my free time goes to podcasting. I have to plan every day out carefully including my actual time to relax and play basketball or something. You have to realize what you can sacrifice and I spend at least 20 hours a week on podcasting/radio work. The amount of work you put in is what you get out. Yes, I fund this myself but Roman Noodles can be a balanced meal when treated right.
► What do you gain from podcasting?
I gain experience. I don't take sponsorship just cause. Maybe down the road but for now, no, it gets in the way. But podcasting benefits me in a lot of ways. Its taught me great communication skills I can't explain but I can take everywhere I go. I learn things constantly and it's given me a passion to follow. Weirdly enough I still suck at job interviews so that's unfortunate.
► How does your podcasting process look like?
1. Look around for a guest. This can take a long time because I go everywhere on social media and have to verify they'd be a good fit.
2. Reach out and schedule a date.
3. Send information to my researcher.
4. Update social media and website
5. Read research and record with guest (Over Zoom but I can't find a better software)
6. Edit the episode with adobe audition.
7. Put together a trailer
8. Write episode description, upload on social media
► How do you market your show?
Social media and the radio are my two go toos. Also, I stand on a corner street handing out flyers. Bought a 4 x 6 sign but didn't realize how big that would be so now I'm waiting on a smaller one.
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
Do it. Make sure you enjoy it but you have to keep in mind most experience pod fade and burn after 7 episodes. It's a lot more work than you think but if you keep doing it, it becomes a lot of fun.
