► Tell us about you and your podcast
My name is Eric Hunt. I am a musician, writer, comedian and one-half of the genius behind "Eric & Gord: What If We're Right?
Co-Hosted with Gord Strain. Our show offers no-nonsense solutions to the biggest problems facing the world today with an often unpopular but always hilarious Canadian perspective.
► Why & how did you start this podcast?
I hadn't even heard a podcast prior to starting my own. Now they are my primary source of information and entertainment.
I started this podcast by myself in March of 2018 with the initial intent of using it as a platform to complain about my job. Two things happened very quickly: One: I found myself gravitating more toward the news of the day and away from my personal story. Two: I began to find myself very boring. After four months, I brought on Gord as a Co-Host and finally had the show I'd been dreaming of.
► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
We release episodes a minimum of three times per week and beginning in March 2020, we will be releasing four every week. We now podcast live so there is virtually no opportunity to edit so our production time is relatively low.
I have made this my full time job (which means I currently have no income) and spend at least eight hours a day promoting, hosting, producing, creating artwork and music etc.
Because I am capable of handling all aspects of the production, our operating costs are minimal and I'm able to fund it myself.
► What do you gain from podcasting?
While we are still anxiously awaiting our first sponsorship opportunity, I didn't begin this podcast with the intent to make money from it and I don't allow that to occupy too much of my time.
► How does your podcasting process look like?
I use the spreaker.com audio interface to record on my lenovo thinkpad. If I need to edit something I use Adobe Audition. I've been lucky enough that all the guests I've had on the show to date have sought me out so I didn't have to do any work in that regard. I generally prefer to use skype.
► How do you market your show?
Recently I find instagram to be the most useful but I also utilize facebook, twitter and youtube.
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
My best advice: Don't listen to anybody who tells you that you need expensive equipment and a sound proof studio. All you need is passion, personality and a good idea. An dget into the groups on facebook, its a great community.
