► Tell us about you and your podcast
The LemonAid Stand started as a radio talk show in 1999 hosted by Heidi Alldredge. After a 20 year break Heidi decided to start a podcast and interview new people, reach out to past guests for an update interview, and also post the original interviews.
The podcast is about real stories of people who have taken life's lemons and making lemonade. They have overcome life's challenges and made our world better because of what they have experienced. The stories are uplifting and inspiring for listeners.
Listeners are usually middle age women but it is a great podcast for all walks of life and encourages anyone listening to have hope for whatever they might be experiencing in life!
► Why & how did you start this podcast?
I started this podcast during the pandemic in 2020 because I felt it was time to bring back the original radio show and by being a podcast it can reach the world! I do enjoy listening to several podcasts.
My initial goal for starting this podcast was to inspire and uplift others with true stories of triumph!
Heidi's LemonAid Stand started in October 2020!
It took about two weeks to release my first interview and I also started by releasing old radio show interviews on the podcast as well.
► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
I release episodes every Monday and Thursday every week. It takes about 3-4 hours to produce an episode.
My podcast is my hobby. I have scheduled time each day to work on it.
I spend money on my website and my zoom account. I fund this myself by working a side job twice a week at a restaurant.
► What do you gain from podcasting?
I do not have any sponsors. I decided I didn't want any sponsors because I don't want commercials and I don't want to do this for the money.
Podcasting benefits me by creating new relationships with people all across the world, meeting inspiring people who encourage me with anything I might be going through and teach me new tips for enjoying life, and also knowing that the interviews that I produce are helping others too!
► How does your podcasting process look like?
I use zoom to record the interview. Then I download it to Garage Band on my Mac. I do the editing there. Then I upload the finished interview to Anchor and they distribute it to all the podcast platforms for free.
I prepare each episode by giving the guest an outline in advance. Then we chat and I tell them a timeline to keep it to about 30 minutes so I have less to edit because I want to keep my podcast in that time frame.
I do the interviews through my paid zoom account.
► How do you market your show?
My listeners can find my show on any podcast platform. I also advertise it on my facebook and instagram accounts with the Anchor link.
I haven't really found any useful marketing tools. I wish my listeners would share it and encourage others to listen!
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
My advice would be to do what you love and are passionate about and not for any money. Just do it. Don't wait until you are a pro at it, you will learn and get better along the way!
Get a good microphone around $100 and a good internet connection for best sound quality.
Use the Calendly app to schedule guests because it's free and super convenient to keep organized if you are doing a lot of interviews.
Also sign up with Podmatch to find other like minded people who want to help you, be interviewed on your podcast, or interview you on their podcast.
