► Tell us about you and your podcast
My name is Deepak Rana and I live in the Himalayas. Life here is a little slow, as you would expect, and so I get enough time to read and write every day.
This is exactly what I do at my portal (Kalampedia) and a part of that involves this podcast. What I do the podcast is fairly straightforward. I pick at least one new book every single day and share its best ideas with my readers.
My listeners are spread all across the globe, people who are interested in books and acquiring knowledge.
► Why & how did you start this podcast?
Podcast is a good way to connect with a wider range of audience. It's more convenient to listen while doing any task or relaxing with your eyes closed -- something one cannot do with reading. I myself listen to audio books and podcasts every day.
I started this podcast around 3 years ago. The idea was simple and clear as it is today. That is to talk about books endlessly.
Another good thing about podcasting is that it is fairly easy to do. My first podcast took me hardly a few minutes.
► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
I spend five to six hours reading a book every day. Then I write down notes and points that I am going to discuss in the podcast. Once this is done, recording takes generally around.
This has been my passion for a long time so I have not really cared much about funding and timing and other things. I put my money and energy into it and that is okay. Occasionally I also get donations from my readers/listeners which helps a lot.
► What do you gain from podcasting?
I don't take sponsorship. The goal has been simple. To reach out to as many people as possible and build the brand Kalampedia. It also helps me tremendously as I get to read and learn a lot in the process.
► How does your podcasting process look like?
I use Anchor app. It is easy to use.
For each episode I read one book and prepare notes.
If there is a guest, I ask them for phone calls.
► How do you market your show?
I have never marketed my podcast.
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
Create good content. Content is the key.
More than reading a book or watching a video, just create a podcast and you will learn much more.
