► Tell us about you and your podcast
I used to be the "tinfoil hat guy." I believed Hillary Clinton and Justin Bieber were reptilians in charge of the Illuminati, Bigfoot was real, etc. The whole nine yards. It wasn't until my first read-through of the Bible that I began to question everything I believed. By the time I got to Revelations, I was atheist. If I had to question my religious beliefs, I needed to apply that same skepticism to everything I thought to be true. Shortly after, I began researching ancient Egypt, South America, and the Middle East, when I noticed patterns of unexplained ancient sites/structures, but yet the modern archeological narrative was unsubstantiated in its claims and evidences of how these things were created.
This is when I began investigating the possibility of ancient lost high technology, such as the Great Sphinx in Egypt dating back, based off of erosion patterns and construction methods, to over 10,000 years old. So upon researching ancient technology, I wanted to incorporate my interest in religion/atheism/street epistemology into a podcast with history. Hence, Unquestionable with Calvin Smith was born.
► Why & how did you start this podcast?
I started my podcast in March of 2021, and it was kind of a last minute decision. I was sitting on the couch, and just said "I'm gonna make a podcast." And downloaded the hosting app I use, and got to talking into my phone in my bedroom closet!
I had so much to say, but no way to say it! I was researching these sites and religions every day, but with no outlet for the information. What better way than to turn it into a podcast!
► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
I just genuinely love to talk about these subjects at any and a times. So it's not even an issue finding time, I always have time for the truth. And I currently make VERY little money from the podcast, but it's not about the money for me. I want to know as many true things, and as few false things as possible. No matter what the cost.
► What do you gain from podcasting?
I gain the joy of teaching others. I have elementary school teaching experience, so teaching runs in my blood. Seeing people's faces when they learn something they didn't know before is my favorite part about podcasting. Or guiding people into a new line of thinking that may either strengthen, or weaken they beliefs. It's amazing to see it in action!
► How does your podcasting process look like?
I start off picking a subject. This could come from stuff I just want to talk about, to viewer suggestions. I then write a mock-up of a script. This moreso is just some notes of measurements, locations, spellings, and important names to mention. Most stuff I research so much, that I just retain the information in my head!
► How do you market your show?
I just post as often as possible. I went on a hiatus from September 2021-January 2022, and even when not posting podcasts, I still was interacting with my audience through social media, paying for ads, sharing with friends and family, and joining groups related to my topic so I could stay relevant, and keep my listeners interested in the show.
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
Just do it! I was so anxious and scared to launch my voice out to the world, especially on such a unique subject. I only know of 2 other podcasts that cover ancient technology on the regular. But I'm so glad I started it now, and it's given me an excuse to talk to some amazing people I never had the opportunity to speak to before, such as some of my very own personal heroes. Just do it!
