► Tell us about you and your podcast
Eric Freeman Paranormal Researcher and Investigator. The Unseen Paranormal Podcast is a weekly show featuring researchers, historians, authors, and investigators discussing a range of paranormal topics from hauntings to bigfoot and everything in between. My listeners are anyone interested in the unexplained goings on in the world and people who are looking for explanations of things they have seen and experienced.
► Why & how did you start this podcast?
Podcasting is the perfect format for me to tell my own story as well as the stories of my guest. I have been a fan of podcast for years and previously produced a show with a friend from high school and learned the ins and outs and decided to start my own. I have had paranormal experiences my entire life and have researched the phenomenon for years, trying to prove to myself that I wasn't crazy, so I wanted to start this show to help others know that they are not crazy either. I started my show in July of 2020 and just dove in head first with my first episode but I had a clear vision of exactly what kind of content I wanted to produce and the know how to put out great content and production.
► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
I release a new episode every Wednesday and typically spend 30-40 hours per episode from procuring the guest to recording, publishing, and advertising. I treat it like any other job because what you put in is what you will get back. My show is self funded at the moment and I spend $50 to $100 a month on various expenses. The show is entirely self produced, edited, and advertised.
► What do you gain from podcasting?
I have not looked for sponsorship or ad opportunities yet. I have been organically building my audience and tweaking the show to make it the best production that I can. My downloads continue to exponentially grow with each episode and has done better than I ever expected in the first 5 months. Podcasting has opened up great opportunities for me to talk to amazing people and learn more about the paranormal to further my own knowledge and research. It is now opening doors to do things that I never anticipated prior to starting my own show.
► How does your podcasting process look like?
I use the Rodecaster Pro to record, audacity to edit, a cheap dynamic mic, Pixlr for graphics, and most of my shows are recorded over the phone. I find guest in a variety of ways from referrals, contacting book publishers, to social media. The process starts after I find someone I am interested in talking to and then I research that person and their topic to make sure it is a good fit for the show and then I contact them. We schedule an interview at their convenience, then I research even more to make sure I know them and the topic. I never prepare questions as I like just an organic conversation but I usually start with how or why they got into the paranormal because it makes them more relatable to me and my audience. The interview is then recorded, edited, the infographics are created, and then the advertising begins.
► How do you market your show?
Listeners find the show through lots of different social media and my show is published on every platform that I can possibly get it on. A good majority of my listeners come from iHeart Radio. I also have an email list that people can subscribe to from my website. I send out weekly emails once a week with teasers for upcoming episodes. I market a lot on social media and post to groups and pages that have a paranormal theme as well as using hashtags and asking guest to share.
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
Consistency and quality are king. If you have bad audio or are not consistent it is hard to get a good following and build an audience. The Unseen Paranormal Podcast is on all listening platforms, YouTube, and social media or at unseenparanormalpodcast.com
