► Tell us about you and your podcast
Hi - My name is Partha Srinivasan - I am a marketing professional with over 15 years of experience. I specialise in Content Marketing and Web Development.
My podcast is called The EAST Podcast.
The EAST Podcast aims to bring technology closer to your senses. Know how every single piece of technology in todays world affects you. Whether it’s enterprise technology like Servers, Data Centres, or coding for Mobile Apps, or websites, or Concepts like Artificial Intelligence, 3D printing, Robotics – we will try to make it simpler for you. We will also tackle driverless cars, new consumer technologies, and sometimes, even a new consumer product.
My listeners, I hope, are general people - who are not technically inclined, but interact with technology or engineering on a day to day basis - and have probably wondered - how does this work, or how does it affect me.
Right now my audience is a mixed bag with a lot of technical people listening to it and appreciating it - I have most of my listeners in India, the UAE, and the US.
► Why & how did you start this podcast?
I started this podcast after waiting for over a year of my old podcast, t3chtree, being put on hold because my co-hosts and I were planning to get it up and going once again. I would still love to do that show, because it follows a different format to the one I do now. I don't listen to A LOT of podcast, but I do listen to podcasts.
I am hungry for knowledge. I have been in contact with some very knowledgeable people who are kind enough to share their experiences with me, and I use that as an opportunity to document this in the form of my podcast. Since very little, I always took things apart in a tryst to learn more about how they worked. This kept going - and culminated in my work as a marketing professional - focused on technology for over a decade. I am not an engineer, but I have worked in this field with a thirst for knowledge, and here I am.
I started my podcast in Nov 2019 - the first two episodes did not take long. The trailer was out in literally under an hour, the website took me three additonal hours, distribution took a week thanks to anchor.fm, and I was on the ground. The problem arose when one project took the bulk of my time, and I could not push out episode three on time. I broke that jinx, and have not looked back since. I am now on episode 7, with 16 episodes recorded in total. I release episodes every two weeks, and so feel that I am in a fairly comfortable position content wise.
Now - I record as often as possible, and am hoping to get more content in place, before I decide to jump from a two week schedule to a weekly schedule. It's not easy.
► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
I release every two weeks. I record, however, as often as possible - depending on guest availability.
Podcasting and content creation is a passion for me. It doesn't take time for me to actually record the episodes. I plan, and record the episodes in typically two hours or so. The edit takes three days (I have an amazing sound engineer who does this for me - and he is on payroll). Marketing has been a weak spot - kind of ironic since I am a marketing guy!! - and I intend to ramp this up slowly. It takes planning, and I am on track.
I fund this myself, and with some help from my patreons (patreon.com/theeastpodcast) - I currently have only ONE, but would love the additional support that can get me better equipment, or even rent out a studio for the times that I need to record an episode!
► What do you gain from podcasting?
I am looking for sponsorships - cash or kind! Currently I have one monthly patreon for $100 - which is a LOT and helps me tremendously!
I got that first support line last month - I am currently at about 60 plays per week
I am just doing this podcast to learn more about everything in life - everything has an engineering, applied science or technology aspect to it, and I want to know more about this.
► How does your podcasting process look like?
I use an Audio Technica ATR 2100 which was recommended to me by my co-host on my older podcast - it's an amazing versatile mic and I get fantastic results from it.
I use audacity to record my episodes. I use ZOOM to record my guests - and also ask my guests to record locally, if they can. This is then put together in a dropbox (virtually unlimited space) and sent to my sound engineer - who then uses audacity to edit, level, and build the final audio with the mix.
I have a fairly large network, and I also use a service called matchmaker.fm to find guests. Most of the guests I interview, I know. It makes the conversation easier, and far more conversational. Sometimes a PR agency will reach out to me to feature their clients - and that is acceptable too :-)
► How do you market your show?
Listeners are primarily routed through to anchor.fm - where I am currently hosted - I have no complaints (except for their embed). I am on all the major podcast platforms - a full list is available on https://www.eastpodcast.in/find-our-podcast/ (I will add listennotes here as well ;-) as soon as I finish this )
I typically market through my personal social media, my close friends, and via Whatsapp, which bears surprising results!
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
Honestly the only thing is if you believe you possess an ability, then don't seek validation for that ability. Seek validation (if you must) for the output so you can modify how you use that ability to improve others lives. Also, keep at it - life is going to through curve balls galore - just keep at it. I lost 2 months in the middle doing this podcast for no apparent reason.
My personal website is parthans.com (it may or may not be under construction depending on when you read this) - all my social / connect links are there.
My podcast is on eastpodcast.in and I am extremely happy to have made the progress to where I am. It's only uphill from here :-)
