► Tell us about you and your podcast
Me and my nine-year-old co-host are brothers. We both have a natural knack for comedy and making people laugh. While Owen doesn’t think much of this and just goes with it - like a cool guy - I really want to move forward and do some actual comedy stuff within the industry. But I going to be realistic and say that’s not going to happen!
► Why & how did you start this podcast?
It seemed simple at the start. I was interested in how we all interact and talk to different types of people and wanted to expose the ridiculousness of “brotherhood” and other trials and tribulations with family. I often go into hour long ramblings with my cousin on video game voice chat and I wanted to find a way to keep those ridiculously long chats and remember them forever. Once I first got the chance to pick up Owen from his school I hit record and we just started laughing! We weren’t perfectionists or professionals so the audio recorded is the audio your hear. No fakes, no scripts, no nothing! It’s all improvised!
► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
It’s all free baby! I found a podcast hosting app called Anchor and began submitting audio from there. It’s really efficient! I was surprised just how many episodes we could edit, release and showcase within a week. I would use my weekends to edit and try out new stuff. All Owen does is watch TV! I decided to release episodes weekly on Fridays! We wanted to make Fridays more Friday-ee - if that makes sense!
► What do you gain from podcasting?
This podcast, to me, has no monetary value. However Owen is all about the sponsors and ads. It sure would be nice to make some cash from this, but overall I think it's just about the experience and having fun with it! Share your story with the world - sure people'll hate you for it but who cares! Do what you love! (as I'm obviously amazing at being motivational I will start another podcast called "Monday Motivation".
That last proposition was a joke...
► How does your podcasting process look like?
If I implied in any past questions that me and Owen were Podcasting Pros - or "PodPros" - I'm awesome! Then please ignore me, because we have no idea what we're doing! For a microphone and recoding software we just use my iPhone and VoiceMemos - you couldn't tell could you - and for editing I use GarageBand. I guess we're proof that you can do absolutely anything with rubbish and make it into even worse comedy rubbish!
► How do you market your show?
I never wanted to market it in the first place! But thanks for the idea! I didn't want to "put it out there" as in the beginning me and Owen weren't sure how dedicated we were. Six months later and ... we still aren't dedicated but as I'm sick of having my family leave fake reviews on iTunes I've decided to do this interview. We have an Instagram and YouTube both of which are private and regularly post on the blog as part of our website.
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
Have fun with it! Even if you don't have the best equipment you can start right now! As I'm going to say just now right here "A podcast is a podcast is a podcast - no matter the content, audio or reviews" - so inspirational right?
Before starting up I listened to podcasts all the time and because it was free and I had my crazy little brother, I thought: why not give it a try!
