► Tell us about you and your podcast
My name's Becky and I'm a 24-year-old journalist originally from Yorkshire in England but currently living and working in Jersey, Channel Islands. I'm the host of the podcast Into Words which is available on Apple, Spotify, Google and Podbean.
► Why & how did you start this podcast?
I'm a huge podcast fan - my absolute favourite is How To Fail with Elizabeth Day - and I'd always wanted to start my own. In July 2020, that dream became a reality and Into Words was born! The two passions of mine that influenced starting my own podcast are 1) women supporting women, and 2) talking/sharing as a form of therapy. I wanted to give women a safe space to discuss issues that are important to them, and that others might be able to relate to.
► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
I aim to post one episode a month, as I prefer to focus on quality rather than quantity - I like to get to know my guests and do their stories justice. The interviews usually take me around 45 minutes, then the edit a further two or three hours. I also spend a lot of time working on my Instagram page (intowordspodcast). As for the funding, that's all me!
► What do you gain from podcasting?
Where do I start?! The main thing I've gained so far is achieving my goal to give women a safe space and create a loving, supportive network. Receiving comments thanking me for this podcast when it's helped someone in some way is all the thanks or payment I'll ever need.
► How does your podcasting process look like?
At the moment, my process is (like me) pretty low maintenance - I record on my phone and edit on my laptop! I may look to get some better, more advanced equipment further down the line, but for now I'm content with my workflow. In terms of finding guests, I've spoken to friends, friends of friends, acquaintances and total strangers, and am always looking for new women to speak to about new topics. Sometimes, I've been lucky to carry out the interviews in person, but due to the coronavirus pandemic this hasn't always been possible. So, video call has become the norm for Into Words.
► How do you market your show?
My podcast is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Podcasts and Podbean, and my main platform to promote it is Instagram - you can find me on there by searching intowordspodcast. I also use my professional social media accounts (Instagram: beckylancashireitv / Facebook: Becky Lancashire ITV / Twitter: @beckylancashire) to share my work.
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
Take the leap! I was scared to start a podcast for so long, fearing no one would listen to it, but now I think 'why does that matter?'. My mission was to help women and give them a safe network to feel a part of, so if just one person benefits from that I've achieved what I set out to. Also, on a personal note, I absolutely adore interviewing, editing and sharing these episodes - why stop something that makes you happy?
► Where can we learn more about you & your podcasts?
My website rebeccalancashire.com has all of my social media channels on it, lots of my work and how to contact me. You can listen to my podcast Into Words on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Podcasts and Podbean, and follow me on Instagram at intowordspodcast. The final thing I'd ask of you is that if you like what you hear, please subscribe, rate and share so other women can find me and we can keep growing this fabulous community!
