► Tell us about you and your podcast
I am a native New Mexican born into a love-rich but money-poor family. I had to work for everything that I have today. I started my fitness career in middle school when my mom put me in the martial arts academy because I was getting picked on for my hand-me-down clothes and stinky payless shoes. It was movement and regiment that kept me on the straight and narrow.
I achieved my alumni status from the Harvard Graduate School of Business in 2008 and was running a multimillion-dollar family business. That same year I lost everything and found myself at the end of a bottle and broke.
One sober morning and with five dollars left to my name I got a job at a local gym cleaning toilets. Yes, a Harvard Graduate cleaning toilets. It was fitness though that got me back on track and 14 years later, my wellness programming has touched and continues to touch over 1.5 million people across the world.
Some of my highlights include being an OCB Pro Champion, a TEDx Speaker, SBA Entrepreneur of the Year, University of Puebla Mexico's Guest Lecturer, proud pappa of two fur babies, and the proud partner of Adonis Lopez.
If find that my story relates to a lot of individuals and is raw and real with sharing I can fulfill my passion for inspiring others to better themselves. My podcast is real-time events that inspire me to speak about my struggles and actions that I take that others can use themselves to improve their lives.
My listeners are mainly middle-aged females, similar to those I serve from a personal training perspective, looking to become less invisible and get their groove back!
► Why & how did you start this podcast?
Audible is my biggest source of continuing education and enjoyment. Podcasts are an extension of this. I run a fitness business so Fitness Business Secrets with Jimi Pompeo is my morning ritual along with Darren Hardy. I find the less than 15-minute podcasts quite useful! I like the relatability and current aspect of podcasts and I try to make mine the same.
My goals for this podcast are to reach and serve more individuals by delivering a positive message of wellness and giving them tools to use to help in this wonderful thing called life!
I started my podcast on March 15th, 2022. I set my podcast up pretty quickly. I am proud to have achieved the top 10% globally in such a short period.
► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
I produce two podcasts weekly. Due to its success, I expect to grow it to one episode daily within the next year as I refine my approach.
I am the of eVOLV Strong which provides wellness services to over 1,000's of individuals so my job is to continue to produce programming and content in this digital age that my clients can use to better themselves. My podcast is just another delivery mechanism for my services.
This podcast is 100% funded by me but due to its success, I am exploring options for monetizing it by providing cross-marketing opportunities with like-minded entities.
► What do you gain from podcasting?
I gain more credibility, my message now reaches more individuals and my business gains at this point. At the rate it is growing though I will be monetizing my message eventually. The value has been recognized by the top 10% ranking globally in just a couple of months being live.
I am currently in the process of finding the right sponsors - so hit me up if you have ideas or wish to help!
► How does your podcasting process look like?
I have all the necessary equipment due to running a fitness business during COVID. We had to go virtual so we have all the fancy mics and technology. Quite interesting though I use my laptop, Zoom record and then I send it to my assistant who puts it all together and then broadcasts it! Very simple but it works!
I deal with numerous clients, employees, and stakeholders daily so I hear current happenings or I am experiencing current struggles that inspire my talks right then and there. I use these experiences as inspiration for my raw and real chats and I use them as learning lessons for those who listen. I know that if my clients, employees, or others in my life are experiencing an issue, my listeners are as well. That's why my content is so relevant to my listeners. I also provide action items or solutions for them in every chat. This is how I prepare my podcasts.
In regards to guests, I try to do them in person if I can but I do use Zoom for the others.
► How do you market your show?
I have an email distribution list of over 18,000 individuals and I have over 200,000 social media followers that I am able to promote my podcast. Word of mouth has been quite useful as well. I email each podcast out to all 18,000 people and post on all social media channels.
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
Just keep developing content and find your own niche. Don't ever give up!
