►Tell us about you and your podcast

Fear Innes, Razar, & MDI host FEARCast & FYFCast. Fear is married to MDI while MDI & Razar are brother and sister.

FYFCast is all 3 hosts chatting pop-culture, personal stories, weird news and anything in between. There is nothing off limits. Sometimes there are skits or bits that reoccur like “Fear’s 5”, “Hog & Whistle orders” and more. FEARCast is Fear’s solo show where he talks movies (usually horror), music (usually metal) and MMA.

We appeal to the folks that like to speak their mind. It’s very much like having drinks with friends… but your friends are loud, filthy jerks!

►Why & how did you start this podcast?

We started podcasting June of 2013 on a show that is no longer around. We picked up the mics after hearing Kevin Smith on “Jay & Silent BOB Get Old” repeatedly saying “anyone can do this.” so we thought why not. Our only goal originally was to entertain each other. We didn’t think anyone would listen, so as long as we were having fun that’s all that mattered. We started with a laptop and 2 xbox ROCK BAND USB mics and we were off and running!

►How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?

We have the two podcasts above and every other week we do a live show on Facebook where people can call in and be part of the show.

The funding started all out of pocket. Then we had some merchandise made and sold that to pay for the hosting and upgrades (mixer board, proper mics, etc).

Since our show is more like traditional radio with swear words, there isn’t a lot of editing that goes on. Most of the time is put into spreading the word and interaction.

►What do you gain from podcasting?

Starting in 2018 we have started to gain ground with sponsors, and that’s helping to fund bigger projects, more merchandise and so on.

It’s funny about the downloads. The internet is full of bots, so it’s tough to find out whats real and whats not. So I honestly don’t know how many we have. Back in 2016 we were on fire and had over a million! Or maybe not.. again there isn’t a proper way to finding that information as we are hosted through our own site.

We have always wanted to entertain people, and the more we grow the more we get to do that. We are in talks to start doing live shows around town. One day we would love to go on a tour around Canada and USA, making people laugh and so on.

►How does your podcasting process look like?

We use MacBook Pro’s with Logic Pro X to record through Behringer mixing boards. We use Shure XLR mics and Sony headphones.

To find guests to interview, we just ask them. Usually through social media. You’d be surprised who you get.

How do we prepare each episode? If we have a musician on we will check out their album, if it is a celeb or director we will check out their movie. As for FYFCast, we hit record.

We use Skype, phone & Zoom to interview guests. Skype is the biggest one.

►How do you market your show?

We are on iTunes, GooglePlay, iHeart Radio, Stitcher Radio… really all the podcatching apps. We are also on all the social media platforms. Facebook, Snapchat, Vero, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube… I might be missing some.

Social media through twitter and facebook seem to work the best. With IG & YT close behind.

►What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?

Just hit record. Really it depends what you want to do. If you have no clue, just hit record. If you have an idea, name, format, then you are ahead of the game. It’s really easy to get started, and then just set reasonable goals. If you want to release once a week, pick a day and be consistent. Your listeners will be waiting. Consistency is the easiest way to build an audience.
