My name is Austin Nasso and I am from Connecticut. I move to LA to go to school at UCLA where I studied computer science and started the comedy club on campus. I am super passionate about performing stand up and improv comedy as well as acting, writing, directing, editing, producing and pretty much anything that has to do with comedy and filmmaking.
This podcast is dedicated to helping young aspiring creatives find their unique path in entertainment. I interview both successful creatives (such as comedians, actors, writers, filmmakers, etc.) as well as industry people (i.e. comedy club owners, managers, agents, festival runners) to capture both the business and creative sides of the industry.
My listeners are young creatives trying to ‘make it’ in entertainment.
I started this podcast because I was interested in answering these questions myself and I realized that there is a lot of value in sharing this information with people who are also wondering the same things as me. I mostly listen to the Tim Ferriss show podcast.
My initial goals were to learn more myself, help people, and meet talented people in the business.
I started interviewing in October 2017, and just started releasing in February 2018.
It took me a while because I needed to set up my website (~3 months). It only took two or three days to make the site, so I was just procrastinating.
I release once per week. It takes 1-2 hours to record the audio for the episode, ~1 hour to edit the episode, and ~1 hour to post.
I just record audio on the weekend and edit after work.
The cost of pocasting is $15/month for hosting and that’s it.
Currently, my podcast isn’t large enough for sponsorship.
I meet very interesting people and am able to help my friends with this information.
I use a Zoom H4N Recorder, NTG4+ Rode Mic with a windscreen, Yeti USB Mic, and Adobe Audition.
I find guests through mutual friends, cold Facebook messaging and connections in entertainment that I personally have.
I write a list of 3-5 questions in three categories: Life, Creative Process, and Business to guide the conversation.
I do interviews mostly in person, but I plan on doing some over skype relatively soon.
Mostly through comedy and entertainment Facebook groups. Facebook is the most effective marketing channel for my podcast.
If you have an hour+ length podcast, you have to sit through that entire thing again to edit. Damn. Also be nice to your guests and buy them gifts for participating.
