My name is Bryan Shampu. My show is called LootQuest: RPG Podcast. It is an episodic actual play tabletop podcast, that features rotating games and cast members.
I started brainstorming the concept of the show in mid 2017 but just launched in March of 2018. The reasoning behind it was that I really enjoy listening to other actual play shows and wanted to try my hand at it and hopefully inspire other role players to try their hand at running a game themselves.
The funding comes from my own pocket, and as far as time goes...I have no idea how I manage recording and editing on top of maintaining my full-time job and personal relationships. The important thing is that I genuinely enjoy it!
At this point in my podcasting career, what I have gained most is the pride in knowing that I have created something and provide entertainment to others. On top of that, I have met a lot of really great people.
I have an ATR-2100 mic and desk mounted boom stand that runs through a behringer mixer which connects my main pc and soundboard. I connect with my players over Skype and have them record their own audio. Once they send me their files I edit the tracks together in a final mix and add any sound drops, music or promos.
I mostly use Twitter, but I do have a small presence on Facebook using my personal page and just do my best to interact with as many people as I can in podcasting groups and communities. On top of that, I have my show listed in about every podcast directory known to man.
My best advice is to not stress about listener numbers. I’ve experienced varying degrees of success, but when I’m at my most satisfied is when I don’t concern myself with how many downloads I’m getting. Besides that, what I recommend is good audio equipment. Get yourself a good cardioid mic first and foremost.
