►Why & how did you start this podcast?
I love audio. I listen to music, podcasts, webinars, meditations myself. I started my podcast years ago because I was hosting a lot of webinars- hundreds and loved it. Podcasting was a way to reach more people. Initially, I wanted to help as many people as I could to be happier every day and to live inspiring lives. I started podcasting in 2010 using audioacrobat. I then linked it to itunes. I didn't even realize that I had days with lots of downloads. I wasn't tracking it. I was just having fun. Recently, I changed my format to much shorter episodes like ten to fifteen minutes instead of an hour. I still might do an hour, depending on the topic. It didn't take me long to release my podcast. I already had a library of webinar recordings on audio acrobat that were appropriate for a podcast.
►How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
I fund my podcast through my coaching business. I try to be consistent. Sometimes doing a new episode each week, then six weeks will go by before another one. I get inspired and the content shows up for me. I usually write a bullet list of what I want to talk about. Most often I get it right the first time I record, sometimes I will redo. I do a lot of public speaking, so this is probably not the norm for most people. I record using an app on my phone, then edit on my phone, then upload to audio acrobat and publish it to my podcast. In the past, I used audacity to edit, but the phone apps are so great and easy now. Recently, I hired an actress, Joanna Sanchez to do my show intro voice over. I promote my podcast on my blog, to my email list, to my facebook groups and on social media. I look at podcasting as part of my outreach for my vision of helping people.
►What do you gain from podcasting?
Podcasting gives an additional resource for people on my email list. It also brings in new people to my list. Sometimes when I post a new podcast, I will have someone immediately sign up for a coaching package because the podcast topic resonated so much. I don't have sponsors. I promote my own bramd. Podcasting helps me deepen the relationship with current subscribers and reach new people. The most popular podcast for 2018 so far was How to Stop Self-Sabotage.
►How does your podcasting process look like?
Even though I have a professional conferencing microphone for my laptop, I use an app called Voice Recorder on my Samsung Galaxy 8# phone. My podcast is audio.Then I use Audio mp3 Editor App on my phone to trim and mix. Then I save the audio to my Dropbox- from there, I upload to audioacrobat. I publish my podcast through audioacrobat which also connects it to itunes. My podcast is not generally an interview show, but I have done some interviews. I held 13 telesummits with 200 total interviews over 4 years and used some of the best interviews as features on my podcast. I reached out to colleagues to secure those interviews, most people said yes.
►How do you market your show?
My show is on itunes, and publishing through audio acrobat, I have it set to syndication, so it shows up in some surprising places. I market it to my email list, on facebook, google plus, twitter, pinterest, instagram, and on my blog. The most effective is facebook groups and my email list. However, it is a huge plus to have it on itunes.
►What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
My advice is to go for it. But first, know who you are, understand your message and understand your potential listeners - think about who your optimal listener is. This helps you create a cohesive message. Overall, have fun. I look at my podcasting as a fun part of my business.
