Ruby McGuire, Visibility Diva, aka Queen of Connection. I own Rock Your Fabulous Biz. I'm a visibility strategist and I work with small business owners to help them to get over their mindset blocks to get connected, visible and profitable in their businesses.
The podcast is called Rock Your Fabulous Biz - I talk about all things business and mindset relating to visibility - procrastination, overwhelm, fear, niching, pricing and more. My listeners are service-based solopreneurs, often coaches, consultants and trainers.
I wanted to reach a bigger audience. I love talking. This media combines the two haha! I listen to select podcasts. Initial goals and motivations - to help more people. I also wanted to interview others to give more value back to my audience.
The first episode launched in May 2015. It took 1 week from idea to launch! Don't ask! It was a bit of a big task. I was hosting a telesummit and wanted to have some additional places to share my message after the summit, so I challenged myself to get it up and launched in 1 week!
Episodes release mostly weekly, although I've shared so much content now that it's not always every single week or people would get sick of me repeating myself! It takes me about an hour to write and record and then I get the podcast edited and uploaded (I've always got loads to say).
I have to create the time, it's one of those things that can easily fall off the list when you have clients and other things to do in your business but it's a great way to get your message out there so you have to prioritise it.
I spend about £10 an episode on editing (c. ¢14) and then about the same per episode in marketing. I fund the podcast myself.
There are so many ways that people like to take in information, adding podcasting into the mix allows people to listen on the go, while they’re out and about walking the dog, working etc. It helps me to reach a much bigger audience, I can also use the content in different ways across various social media platforms. Most importantly though, podcasting has helped me to create a deeper connection with my dreamie clients, which has meant they have made the decision to work with me quicker than through many other marketing methods.
I use Zoom to record, Audacity to edit, Podcast Press to copy the post over onto my website; Libsyn. I have conversations with people and invite them to be a guest if I think they will be a good fit for my audience. I use Zoom for guest interviews.
I write each episode out as a blog post, that way I can use the wording as a transcript on my blog, I then record and make it chatty.
Guessing on stats to be honest - iTunes 85%, Facebook/Facebook groups 15%. Newsletter, Facebook biz page, my FB groups, other FB groups, LinkedIn, Twitter, Pinterest, my website. Most traffic comes from my FB group and biz page.
You can set it up quicker than you think, but you do need to get through that initial learning curve. Thinking about all the ways that you can repurpose content will save you loads of time.
I chose to do bite size podcasts and then intersperse it with longer guest interviews. I've also been known to repurpose FB lives into podcasts too, doing training series that I then add a different intro/outro to for my listeners.
