Norman "Rookie" Blunts, Tyger" Redkorn" Durgen and Milly " DJ " Van Neslon, also known as "The JNT Baggers" are 3 broke stoners aimlessly giving cloudy perspectives on all things pop culture and society have to offer. Finding disagreements and laughter along the way, Just In Time with The JNT Baggers is filled with philosophy, cleverly wrapped in stupidity. Our listeners seem to just be random people who need a laugh, and we're happy to oblige.
We chose to start podcasting after we realized that our regular conversations seemed to go down a rabbit hole, which often made anyone who heard us talking laugh and wonder how the hell we ended up wherever we did. Our initial goal was simply to make one person laugh. We actually released our first recording the day we recorded it. It was completely raw and unedited. We hadn't even named the show yet.
We've all made lifestyle sacrifices to save up for equipment and occasionally lose sleep to record. We release weekly episodes that take about 2-5 hours to edit. We typically spend around $50 a month on hosting. We don't pay for any marketing (besides our phone bills) as we use social media for most of our marketing.
We've taken a few sponsors, mostly sales based, which hasn't really led to any revenue for us yet. Our first sponsor was actually based on our social media, rather than our 200 monthly downloads at the time. Finding sponsors nowadays is pretty hard. The ones we've had in the past have usually reached out to us. Our 300 downloads a month currently don't draw much interest from sponsors, however there are some out there that will consider smaller pods like us.
One of the biggest benefits we've gained from podcasting has to be the other podcasters whom we've befriended and even collaborated with. It also gives us as friends an excuse to get together every week and shoot the shit and laugh a bit. It's a great escape.
3 Sterling Audio ST-55 dynamic condenser mics, plugged into a Xenyx Q1202 USB Mixer, recorded on Hindenburg Journalist. We've gotten guests by reaching out to or being reached out to by publicist and podcast friends. We prepare each episode with a rough outline of topics and usually about an hour of smoking and talking right before recording. We've had guests via Skype as well as random friends we've brought on the show in person.
Social media is our main form of marketing our show. About 55% of our listeners seem to come from Spreaker, which is where we currently host. We find Twitter to be pretty useful as well as Instagram.
Be patient. Be consistent. Enjoy what you are doing. Research as much as possible before and while podcasting. Your situation may differ from those you read about, so adjust to your budget and your recording space.
Join community based podcasting groups on Facebook. A lot of veteran podcasters are in those groups and will or have answered almost every question you can think of in regards to podcasting.
