Maine and Josh, we run a sport Brazilian Jiu jitsu podcast that covers the professional events happening every week in the BJJ community. We also cover major events from the larger world competition events, such as the world championships, Pans, and Brazilian nationals. Our listeners are BJJ hobbyists, competitors, and promoters of events. Our listerners are also fans of the BJJ sport.
We began this podcast because there was no coverage of professional BJJ or submission grappling. Our goal is to provide the best breakdowns and analysis of professional BJJ and provide a resource for the BJJ community to better follow the professional events in the sport. We started our show in Q3 2017. We released our first episode approximately one month after initial development
We release our show weekly on Tuesday. We build in our recording schedule around day jobs and around event results, lots of very late nights recording the show. We fund the marketing and hosting of the show ourselves. We have some sponsors that assist us with show costs. We own our equipment, recording space, and we also supply our own transport to professional events.
Our podcast is belificial to both hosts. It assists our hosts in being able to access top talent in the sport and better helps us create the show.
We use a Mac with Logic Pro x for recording. Both show hosts are local, and all episodes are recorded in person for audio quality reasons. We do not conduct interviews on this show. To prepare for each show we watch, analyze, and create breakdown notes of each event and match we plan to cover on that weeks show. We also will aggregate news into the most important items and go over news in our show.
We market on: Facebook, twitter, Instagram, google plus, Reddit, locally at live events, and through sponsorships on fighter apparel. We also use email and a website to drive show traffic, in conjunction with YouTube posting of the show and supplemental content to the show. iTunes accounts for the majority of our listenership, followed by android devices, followed by online in browser listens.
Create good content, and keep improving the content. Reach out and become a part of the community you are looking to reach, not only as a brand but as individuals and hosts. Allocate funds to market, and keep a consistent release schedule.
