Interview

►Tell us about you and your podcast

Childhood friends Marcus Dean (content writer) and Elliott Ayling (software engineer) produce "What Do?", the hypothetical conversational podcast for morally bankrupt people in which two friends ask each other ridiculous questions like - 'you come home and Val Kilmer is in your kitchen with a dead dog, what do?'.

Our audience is mostly friends at the moment, but also fans of comedy for sure.

►Why & how did you start this podcast?

We love listening to podcasts like The Adam Buxton Show and The Worst Idea Ever, and enjoy being creative with each other; So we thought this would be the ideal way to do so. We initially wanted to make something we're proud of and make each other laugh, now we hope to make others laugh and enjoy it as much as we do making it. It has questionable humour and is gleefully poisonous at times, but you need to laugh at those things. We started in January 2018 but have been friends since 2003.

►How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?

We live together and thought it would be a good use of our downtime after work. I write for a living but it's nothing like the free rein of creativity we get on the pod. We dedicate an hour to recording each week and the same to editing, it's very therapeutic in a lot of ways and fun to fill in our segments. Costs are very low right now, outside of our mics and things like that.

►What do you gain from podcasting?

We currently have no sponsorship but would hope that grows with the audience base.

►How does your podcasting process look like?

We record with Blue Snowballs, edit using Audacity and upload on our own WordPress site. We record all our episodes in person and sometimes feature guests to bring a different view to proceedings.

►How do you market your show?

We are on all major podcasting channels and have dabbled in Facebook ads, but this is very much in its infancy.

►What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?

Just get out and do it. There's legit nothing stopping you.

►Where can we learn more about you & your podcasts?
