►Tell us about you and your podcast
The NH Business Show is a podcast that focuses on NH Businesses. In our daily marketing we always talk about what we sell, but we often forget to talk about why we're in business. People want to know more about the companies they're giving their money to. I created the NH Business Show to give entrepreneurs in New Hampshire a place to get that word out there, and share their stories.
►Why & how did you start this podcast?
The show's been through many changes since it began. At first we did google hangouts but that quickly didn't have the quality I wanted. Soon we moved to in person conversations with multiple cameras but the amount of work it took was making the whole process
un-enjoyable for me. We found an access TV channel that would let us record our show and for a few months it was going great. But we hit scheduling problems and eventually I realized the studio couldn't streamline the process like I wanted... So I began looking for my own place to set up.
Around December of 2017 we moved into our current office and began recording 7 interviews per week so we could release daily. With our new setup I'm easily able to turn out interviews and everything flows much smoother than it had in the past, we finally hit a groove. That's where we are now. 160 episodes in and growing quickly.
►How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
When I began this podcast I wasn't working. I had just returned from active duty and had left gym membership sales... so I had plenty of time. Funding was, and still is, the hard part. We make very little money hosting the show, but I want to give all entrepreneurs a platform, not just big companies like Coke and Pepsi who have tons of money to advertise. We're creating a place for consumers to come and learn about businesses they want to shop with, and for other businesses to collaborate with. The relationships being built in this community are amazing and I'm not worried about the money.
►What do you gain from podcasting?
The NH Business Show does take on sponsors. Often our sponsors are NH Businesses who see value in what we're doing and want to be in front of our audience. I only take on sponsors who I feel benefit the business community and can provide real value.
Sponsorships have always been very easy for the show. I get proposals all the time to sponsor the show in one way or another.
►How does your podcasting process look like?
I run a very low budget set up. All of my guests interview with me in person, in my office. I have a couple of mid quality streaming webcams on tripods to collect the video, and a blue yeti microphone set in the center of a table for the audio. With my keyboard I manually flip between the cameras and my guest and I speak.
To find guests I scour Facebook and LinkedIn, they're my go too's. I use a system called Phonesites to set up nice landing pages for guests to request joining me on the show. Once they opt-in I receive a notification and they're re-directed to my online calendar making the process really easy.
►How do you market your show?
The Audio show can be found on iTunes, Google play, iHeart Radio, Stitcher, Fireside, and Apple Podcasts. The Video show can be found on Youtube and Facebook. Most of my listens and views come from Facebook.
►What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
Be good at listening and asking questions. Asking good questions takes practice and if you're not a great listener than you can miss chances to build good report with your guests. Just forget the camera and microphones are there and talk to them.
