► Tell us about you and your podcast
The Zero To 60 podcast was created as an offshoot of a previous podcast I had created that aired on WPTF radio in Raleigh, N.C. from 2014 to 2015 called Horsepower Half Hour. After leaving my 25-year career in radio in 2016, I brought the creative idea of hosting a monthly automotive podcast to Leith Automotive Group. I created the Zero To Sixty podcast for LeithCars.com to highlight some of the latest and greatest new cars coming to the market, talk about automotive events in the Raleigh-Durham area, and highlight some of the great people and their stories across Leith Automotive, a locally owned car group with 24 brands and 30 locations in North Carolina.
► Why & how did you start this podcast?
The Zero To Sixty podcast was created to help brand LeithCars.com as an automotive authority beyond the business of selling and servicing new and used cars but also to show that our entire company is full of people who simply love cars. We're car enthusiasts too and we have our own unique stories to tell.
► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
The Zero To Sixty podcast by LeithCars.com is a monthly series and just one part of many different creative jobs I do at LeithCars.com as a social media manager. I help market the image of our dealerships and their respective brands on social media. The Zero To Sixty podcast helps in that mission too and in fact, helped foster the creation of Zero To 60TV and several more video series we produce within our LeithCars marketing department.
► What do you gain from podcasting?
Since we're basically promoting LeithCars.com within our podcast, there are no outside sponsors, but we certainly help cross-promote other automotive-centric businesses that we have partnered with or would be of interest to our listeners. Virginia International Raceway, Wake County Speedway, the former Pinehurst Concourse, Richard Petty Motorsports, Victory Junction Charity, and NASCAR driver/team owner Timmy Hill are all examples of people and companies who we've highlighted on our podcast since it debuted in 2016.
► How does your podcasting process look like?
To produce the Zero To Sixty podcast, I simply use a Zoom digital audio recorder for my interviews and then edit them on Adobe Audition software. I then upload each episode to our host site on Audioboom.com. Since cars are a visual thing, I also take and post photos of each car or content piece featured in an episode for use on other social media platforms.
► How do you market your show?
I post each Zero To Sixty episode, using the link from Audioboom.com, to our LeithCars.com social media channels and when I write a blog to compliment an episode, I'll link the podcast within the blog on LeithCars.com.
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
As for podcast advice, I'd start with making sure you have the right equipment. A good digital mic and/or recording device like the Zoom H1 I use, which is pretty basic. Then have the right software to edit your content like the Adobe software I use, but there are others too. Come up with a focus, as far as your content and stick to it. Hopefully, you can come up with something unique. Lastly, try to commit to a regular posting schedule. Once a week, a month, etc., so your listeners know when to expect your next episode.
