► Tell us about you and your podcast
I am a 20 year old African American woman, with a lot of unsolicited advice to give! Growing up, I was always the person my friends came to for advice. I was blunt and honest, and my advice always came from my heart. Due to that, my friends felt free to talk to me about anything. We would talk about relationships, sex, mental health, etc. It created a safe haven for us. We realized we all go through things! I made ‘Unsew’ for generation z. I didn’t see many young black woman keeping it real about the highs and lows we face in our generation, on a podcast platform.
► Why & how did you start this podcast?
In all honesty, I never really listened to podcasts. I ran my own blog, and I wanted to take my thoughts and opinions to YouTube. However, I quickly realized that podcasting was giving YouTube a run for their money. My podcast was going to be dedicated towards fashion and makeup tips, but I ended up changing gears.
During the start of the pandemic, I decided I would take the risk and start my own podcast. My podcast was going to be dedicated towards fashion and makeup tips, but I ended up changing gears. When the passing of George Floyd happened, it caused racial and political divide among my peers. I found myself making lengthy posts about how disappointed I was in my generation. I decided I would record my thoughts and opinions, edit, and post it. The rest was history!

► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
When I first started podcasting, my goal was to post twice a week. Unfortunately, school and other extracurricular activities took a toll on my productivity with ‘Unsew’. On top of that, the chaos in the world led me into a depressive state.
After taking time to heal mentally, I decided I would no longer play games with my podcast. My friends and supporters boasting about my intellect kept me going. It was nice to know I wasn’t talking to myself! I took time away from my social life to successfully juggle school, my job, and my podcast.

► What do you gain from podcasting?
Podcasting benefits me mentally. I do make money off of sponsorships from my podcast, but not enough for me to quit my day job! Thankfully, Anchor helps me with everything I need to know about growing my podcast. Most of my sponsorships and marketing is pushed by them.
For now, podcasting is a fun way for me to put myself out there. It’s nice to be able to call myself a podcaster. I hope I’m able to do it full time!

► How does your podcasting process look like?
I am the main character of my podcast. I have yet to have people on, but I’d like to in the future!
I get my ideas for my podcasts on social media or my personal life. I’ll scroll through Instagram and see a controversial topic, and decide that I’ll spend 20-60 minutes talking about it. I’ll spend 30 minutes researching, and then I’ll freely talk about the topic. After I’m done recording, I use iMovie to edit my episode.

► How do you market your show?
42% of my listeners, listen to me rant on Spotify. The other 48% of my listeners, find me through Google and pick other streaming platforms like Apple Podcasts to listen to me.
I find marketing on social media and my website the most useful in keeping my listeners engaged in my activity.

► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
I was very nervous about podcasting. I didn’t know if my friends would support me, if my peers would clown me, or if I would garner any listeners.
A lot of people are afraid to put themselves out there. If you have a true passion for podcasting or really anything, then you should endeavor in it. It could take you really far.
