Jared Ward is a 2016 Olympian in the marathon. He placed 6th in Rio in 2016 and is heading back to the Olympic Trials in February to go for another spot on the Olympic team. First though, he has his sights set on racing the NYC Marathon this fall. Last year he placed 6th in NYC coming in as the first American and this year he placed 8th in Boston, second American, running a huge PR and breaking 2:10 for the first time with a time of 2:09:25. Jared is the Father to four and married to Erica, who he adores, which is so apparent in this conversation. I loved hearing about how they truly balance family life and his career. He credits much of his success to her support. I also loved hearing how he did a lot of training miles on the treadmill in his basement for Boston this year with kids playing while Dad ran. They had their fourth baby in January so much of his training was done in those newborn months when everyone is a little sleep deprived. Jared’s faith as a Mormon is very important to him and his family and I loved hearing about that in this episode as well.
