Faith & Justice:

The Church Parking Lot
that was A Slave Auction Yard

What would you do if you found out that your church parking lot was the site historically of a slave auction Yard? On this episode of Friends Talking Faith with The Three Wise Guys we’ll discuss faith, some of the history of racism against African-Americans in the United States, and our faith response to this terrible part of American history. The Yard, it is a recently released documentary that tells the story of what happened when Calvary Episcopal Church in Memphis, Tennessee discovered that a notorious racist and slave trader – who once owned and operated one of the largest slave trade yards in the region – owned that site on what was now their church parking lot. The truth of this had been covered up for a very long time. We will talk to the key leaders who made this documentary film and their commitment to tell the truth about a terrible chapter of American history. Our conversation with Dr. Timothy Huebner, Mr. John Afamasaga, and the Rev. Dr. Harry Coverston about the documentary – The Yard – that’s on this Friends Talking Faith.
