Dr. Berg talks about dry mouth on ketogenic diet. One of the fluids has a high amounts of an enzyme called amylase – these are enzymes that breaks down starches. An average amount of saliva that an adult produces per day is between 0.5 and 1.5 liters.  


Causes of Dry Mouth on Keto:  

1. Not consuming starches anymore.  

2. Electrolytes – The need for certain minerals goes up.   


Ways to prevent dry mouth on Keto:  

1. Increase amount of vegetables to consume  - You have to consume between 7 – 10 cups of vegetables when doing the ketogenic diet.  

2. Take a good electrolyte powder  

3. Increase sodium chloride in the form of sea salt.
