00:01:54do you think about big red buses
00:01:58Cups of Tea
00:02:00something else we off that question to hundreds of our listeners around the world what do you think about when you think about person and Tess and Robbie I'll be on say they're going to help you find out more about some of the most British things you can think of so let's find out what the traffic is this week
00:02:33hi everyone I'm Robbie and I'm test and he said to tell you about some of the things you think are typically British in this series will tell you about British whether the royal family British pets typical British names but today we're going to tell you about the very famous British food a dish the looks of people think he's the typical British thing to eat do you know what I'm talking about it's fish and chips nice what's the people think that fish and chips is what British people eat all the time and my Spanish friends really wanted to try fish and chips when they came to visit so I can see what your plans were most of all I'll say a little bit about what fish and chips are people don't always know it's a piece of fish covered in batter and deep fried
00:03:33what batteries it's a mixture of flour and water usually you cover the fish kind of fish is it it can be different kinds of fish most popular or Cod and haddock to fish that was very common in the sea around Britain at a not so common now know that but I'll talk about Vice in a minute so you cover the fishing Baka and then you deep fry it that means you cook it in the Deep part of very hot oil or vegetable oil usually you cook the chips the same way you deep fry the potatoes in very hot oil and chips or chips on they Americans killed in fries or french fries but we cool them chips I think chips or so to be gotten thicker than french fries but yes you're right anyway you deep fry the fish on the chips then you serve them with salt and vinegar I hate vinegar
00:04:33fish and chips would always be served in newspaper they rocked you fish and chip shop in a sheet of old newspaper but they don't do that anymore they use special paper not newspaper yeah I remember the newspaper but you know what I hardly ever eat fish and chips any more oil and deep frying it's not very healthy is it it's not know once every now and then says it's okay to eat unhealthy things you know 50% of British people say they eat fish and chips once a month and 14% say they eat them once a week I'd say I'm about once a month if Annie are the numbers of people eating fish and chips coming down
00:05:26as I say it's not very healthy and people are more concerned about healthy eating these days people are more concerned about healthy eating but the British still needs a lots of fish and chips through more than 10,000 fish and chip shops in the country and they sold more than 250,000 males last year having fish and chips is cheaper than going to a restaurant so sales are even going up when people haven't got to lots of money to spend on restaurant meals
00:05:58what about the fish that you said the one so many fish anymore called the most popular fish for making fish and chips is not as common in the sea around Britain any more numbers have really gone down I need the numbers go down the price goes up so fish and chip shops now so lots of other kinds of fishes well but lots of people think that enough this nice do you know test I could talk about this but I wish I'm not even mention the history of fish and chips yet but we're running out of time shall we go and get some fish and chips let's go
00:06:34not talk about fish and chips earlier this made me really hungry
00:06:44do you eat fish and chips as often as I can but not as often as when I was young right if you've listened to the learn English podcast before you might remember Tom the teacher Tom talks about the English you heard in the podcast Thomas North around this time he's going to job teaching in China but that doesn't mean we can't talk about what you heard listen to this
00:07:18so you cover the fishing Baka and then you deep fry it that means you cook it in the Deep part of very hot oil vegetable oil usually you cook the chips the same way you deep fry the potatoes in very hot oil
00:07:36Robbie talks about how to cook fish and chips he said you cover the fish in Bossa and you deep fry it's flying is a way of cooking something in oil olive oil vegetable oil or another kind of oil are the ways of cooking other oh well you can boil things vegetables usually in hot water you can Google things and you can bake things
00:08:10how about the language of preparing food you can chop meat or vegetables slice things great things like cheese
00:08:24will to the list on the website for you and you'll find some other activities and the transcript of what test and Robbie said I'll tell you what would be great though
00:08:37Raffi told you how to cook fish and chips
00:08:41the instructions on how to cook something or a recipe and it would be great to hear some recipes from you if you send them to us we can put them on English and don't text me Robbie's Facebook page remember the ways you can get in touch with us
