Is Crazy Rich Asians really enough when it comes to representation? Are we truly including everyone? Writer and Anti-Racism advocate Sangeetha Thanapal has something to say about this. In order to be on an international stage, we need to have an international mindset and deep understanding of all the social dynamics happening at large. Sangeetha is a native of Singapore of the Indian minority group. I brought her on the show because I wanted to share an opinion that wasn’t of the Asian American stream of which I’m a part of. I knew that there were other voices out there that weren’t being shared with the world. I wanted to talk to Sangeetha to better understand her side of the equation, especially because she is from the country of Singapore and of a minority that is under represented. I didn’t have her on the show because I agreed with her, but because I believed her point of view is important and worth sharing. In Today’s Episode: Who and what is Singapore? Understanding Crazy Rich Asians through an Indian Singaporean lens What is kiasu? American exceptionalism and Chinese privilege? Having an international perspective And much more! Thanks as always for listening. If you have any suggestions please shoot me an email via the contact form! For the full show notes of today's episode, follow this link. Until next time. Stay incredible!
