► Tell us about you and your podcast
I'm Rob Morse and I write, record and publish the Self Defense Gun Stories podcast. I've studying armed self-defense and writing about it for 10 years. Each week, I invite an experienced firearms instructor to look at the news with me. We study how your neighbor did in their self-defense.
Our listeners are gun owners, and want-to-be gun owners. We give them easy steps to protect themselves and their family.
► Why & how did you start this podcast?
I've been a co-host on the polite society podcast for over 7 years. I was talking with an instructor about a news article where an ordinary person stopped a crime. He asked, "Were they lucky, or were they good?" That made me realize that we don't always use best practice. The podcast was born a few weeks later in 2016.
► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
We release a podcast every week, and our listeners frequently ask for more. We collect the self-defense stories from the internet. Together, the host and co-host work out the most important questions and answers. Hint- good planning beats fast hands every time. Each episode is edited so it is easier to listen to.
► What do you gain from podcasting?
We've been approached, but so far we are self-financing.
► How does your podcasting process look like?
We share google docs for the show notes. We record on Skype and edit in Audacity.
► How do you market your show?
We post show notes on several firearms pages. That seems the best source to drive listeners to the podcast. We also respond to the reviews we get on iTunes. Our listeners like to know that we have fun on the show, but take their comments seriously.
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
Producing a good podcast is work. If you do it then you have significant news for radio and TV hosts each week.
► Where can we learn more about you & your podcasts?
Look for us at our website, on Facebook, and MeWe.
