► Tell us about you and your podcast
Hello to you, new friend! My name is Vincent A. Lanci and what separates me from other podcast hosts is my extreme passion for the subject areas of my shows. I am the host of That Entrepreneur Show (Top 1.5%) and A Mental Health Break (Top 3%).
While walking when I was 21 years old, I was hit by a car leaving a bar that thrust me into a world where walking and talking were tasks I had to slowly relearn. I went from a Finance student, hyper-focused on making money, obtaining a corner office, and a "great" job title, to someone who wanted to dive into purpose-driven work.
These podcasts were created after I wrote my first book, Left for Dead. I wanted to continue to make a difference on a large scale, and that led me to launch my first episode of That Entrepreneur Show in 2019. Shortly after, A Mental Health Break launched.
Listeners to That Entrepreneur Show are motivated, high-achieving individuals who are looking to learn from entrepreneurs with lessons learned to share. This show offers authentic conversations on business and life.
A Mental Health Break listeners are given the reminder that we are not alone in life and are given authentic stories with practical ways to improve their mental health during each show.

► Why & how did you start this podcast?
Listening to my early podcast episodes makes me cringe! That is okay. You have to start somewhere. As a speaker, I am always working on my storytelling and speaking abilities. Becoming a podcaster undoubtedly improves both of these areas. Episode #1 was released on December 7, 2019. I began planning the show at the end of October after Left for Dead was released. I encourage you to have an inventory built up before releasing your first show.
There are more reasons than not to start podcasting. You are launching a platform on your topic, helping people through your show, and creating worldwide reach. I did not have any initial goals other than creating a season or two. I wanted to find ways to continue to make a difference and extend my brand, all on a solopreneur's budget! Fast forward to this interview, That Entrepreneur Show has 52,737 downloads and A Mental Health Break has 30,129 downloads.
I challenge and encourage you to stick to your mission and be consistent. I remember only getting a few downloads per show, thinking, is this worth it? I never focused on the numbers, instead focusing on providing consistently released shows that focus on helping the audience succeed and grow.

There have been a ton of changes and tons of trial-and-error in building the show. From editing skills on the show to editing the show podcast artwork, things always evolve as you do.

► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
When you love what you do, it does not feel like work! In life, we make time for the things we want to do. With my entrepreneurial endeavors, which include podcasting, I wake up with a fire inside me every day to make the most of today. From only getting a few downloads per show to scaling, I am excited about the evolution of the shows.
I release at least one episode per week on both shows. If I were to do the entire process myself, it would take around 3-4 hours total per show now that I have streamlined the process.
I fund these podcasts myself along with show sponsors.

► What do you gain from podcasting?
I get so much from podcasting. Podcasting is a form of a business card, and you can offer a guest appearance to anyone in the world as a friend or work connection. I have the opportunity to have meaningful conversations with like-minded people all over the world. On A Mental Health Break, it is like a therapy session each recording, which was super helpful during the Pandemic!
When considering sponsors, I can recommend only aligning with good fits, not just for money. Choosing the wrong message to air on your show may deter listeners. The good thing for you is that there are no laws that say you need to earn a certain amount of downloads before someone may consider your show for sponsorship.
I do not recall how many I had, but I would move forward to acquiring sponsors when your numbers can show value. Challenge yourself and share your podcast mission with good candidates for partnership. Something I created to become more efficient and professional is a podcast guesting and sponsorship PDF that I send to each interested and qualified guest with show statistics, highlights, and the pertinent information enclosed.
So far, I have arranged all my sponsorships in quarter (3-month) packages. My first sponsorship was one of mutual benefit. I shared someone's message on That Entrepreneur Show, and in return, they did the same.
I earned my first paid sponsor around 2 years into podcasting and it was for A Mental Health Break. They have been a partner ever since.
That Entrepreneur Show just finished its Q3 partner and has added one for Q4 with plans of adding two more (pre-roll, mid-roll, post-roll).

► How does your podcasting process look like?
I truly love the podcasting process and is one of my favorite activities of each day. I have a system in place that has been so effective over the almost four years of podcasting that I recently put it into a course to help others. Each acquired guest goes through the same system to maximize efficiency and quality.
To prep my shows, I send a Podcast Guest Information Sheet out to confirmed guests before the interview. This provides me with the information needed for both the episode introduction and the podcast episode descriptions. I prepare potential questions to ask the guest in addition to the questions that are a part of natural conversation beforehand.
At first, finding guests was certainly a challenge, and remember being stressed at one point as I almost ran out. Like many entrepreneurs, setting unrealistic expectations and goals happens from time to time. During Season 1, I was launching 3 episodes per week to create a lot of noise as a new podcast!
When I first started, I created a list of potential guests in my network for That Entrepreneur Show and sent requests. Fast forward to today, podcast agents send 10-20 potential guests each week for me to consider.
For A Mental Health Break, I googled Top 50 Mental Health Influencers in America and sent cold emails out. I played the numbers game, heard back from 12, and booked 6, which was much higher than I anticipated. This brought immediate credibility to the show.
I record my shows via Zoom as I connect with guests around the world. I do not use phone call recordings as we can not see each other, creating an unnatural flow in conversation. If possible, I interview the guest in person. I edit using GarageBand and iMovie, then upload to Buzzsprout and YouTube.

► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
If you have seen any of my content, you know the answer to this. Never Give Up. I mentioned the low listener count in the beginning. It takes time to build credibility. I did not monetize until nearly 2 years in, but did not put a revenue system in place until 3.5 years in. Depending on your podcasting goals, professionalism goes a long way. I prep each guest before recording their shows.
I strongly encourage you to build a system. Using systems helps me in every area of life. There is a system in place for me starting with networking to get guests to follow up with guests post-interview.
I host my shows through Buzzsprout because it is extremely user-friendly and allows you to push each episode out to all podcast platforms with the push of a button. Buzzsprout also offers you statistics from locations to type of equipment used to listen to your show.
