► Tell us about you and your podcast
Ryley and I have been best friends since high school. We have watched many movies together throughout our friendship, and both went on to get degrees in film. Our podcast is a chance for us to talk about movies together, something we love doing. Our listeners are people who enjoy movie commentary and reviews. In some cases, they're fans of the movies we reviewed.
► Why & how did you start this podcast?
I am a big-time listener of podcasts. They have brought me a lot of joy. If I in any way can bring joy to someone through my podcast, that's enough for me. We went into making this podcast without any goals of success or money but to have enriched conversations about movies together in a structured way. We started creating this podcast in July of 2021 and didn't post our first episode until November. We took a lot of time to nail down exactly what we wanted the podcast to be.
► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
We release episodes every week. Typically it takes about 3 days to record and edit a podcast. We take one day together to record each week and keep our recording schedule open to change. I (Kat) take about 2 days to fully edit since I do have a day job. It isn't something we find time for as much as it is something we make time for. Most of our spending went towards equipment to record with. Now we fund the podcast ourselves through necessary subscriptions to keep the podcast up and running.
► What do you gain from podcasting?
Nowadays, we can find sponsorships through ad listings on sites like Podcorn. We haven't taken any sponsorships yet because we are trying to build our listenership.
Podcasting benefits us both by giving us a creative outlet. We are both creative people and are best friends, so as we flourish creatively, so does our friendship.
► How does your podcasting process look like?
We don't live near each other, so we record over zoom. We record and edit with adobe audition. To prepare for each episode, either Ryley or I research the movie we picked to collect background information and reviews to present to the other.
► How do you market your show?
We market our episode mainly through social media and word of mouth. We post the most on Instagram and are working on collecting clips to post on TikTok. Instagram has been very useful.
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
Nail down your vision first. Don't be afraid to have a period of trial and error before posting anything. Listening to other podcasts helps with learning ways to improve your work.
