► Tell us about you and your podcast
ThyGap podcast is hosted by Bogusnoog & BeingBrut, two 'young', disillusioned, failed stand-up comics from Hyderabad, India. A couple of failed, chernobyl-licious, open-mic performances later, the two wage-slaves decided there were better mediums to convey their message, and realize their dreams.
A cursory glance at the titles of each podcast episode should sufficiently explain what this podcast is about - almost. We revel in shining a light on the often-missed nuance in topics. Nuance is like a unicorn, incredibly rare, hard to find, extremely slippery, and invaluable at the farmers' market. Whether it's inspiration, motivation, intuition, role models, dreams etc., this podcast aims to capture that which usually goes unsaid.
As of June 2021, we would have completed our first year of podcasting. It is heartening to see that our podcast has been downloaded from over 26 countries now. Our ideal listeners would probably have an interest in any of the following: comedy, introspection, philosophy, psychology, humor, curiosity, appetite for learning, culture, society etc. We believe this podcast would be incredibly helpful to a new adult. Somewhere between the end of adolescence and the beginning of adulthood, where an individual is truly figuring themselves out and their place and purpose in this world.

► Why & how did you start this podcast?
We started this podcast for a combination of reasons. It was partly nostalgia of radio, and partly because of listening to some good contemporary podcasts as well. Then there is the communal aspect to it, where you find a group of like-minded people, which is incredibly rewarding.
We started the podcast in June, 2020. Our plans initially were to explore other forms of expression like videos or sketches, but the pandemic forced us inside, so we thought we'll launch the podcast instead. We originally intended to start a podcast much later, but it's good that we re-calibrated. We initially recorded a few test sessions, called 'Human Trials' before launch, and two of those test episodes were eventually published as well! With the test recordings, it took us about 4-6 weeks to release our very first episode 'So it Begins'.

► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
As I had mentioned earlier, we're both holding down day jobs, which makes it a challenge to stick to timelines and not miss a publish. Over the week, we bounce topic ideas for an episode while we use the weekends for recording and editing plus post-processing. We prep for an episode for about an hour prior to recording. The actual recording takes an average of about 90 minutes. To edit and process the episode, it takes us about 4-5 hours average.
We fund this podcast ourselves, from savings we make from our day jobs. Our current recurring monthly cost is for hosting. All other expenditure has been on hardware equipment, for now. As we are planning to transition to video podcast soon, these expenses will increase.

► What do you gain from podcasting?
Podcast sponsorships in India are still at a nascent stage, and there's some ways to go before its sustainable. We believe if anyone out there derived some value from listening to our podcast, that is a gain/win for us. If we're able to attract a community of like-minded people, no matter how small, we would have gained immensely with that, as well.
► How does your podcasting process look like?
We record using dynamic mics(Audio Technica) and a Zoom H6 recorder. Post-recording we use Audacity to edit and process our episode. Buzzsprout is our podcast host, and that's where our RSS file lives. Overall, it takes us about 9-10 hours to release a podcast episode.
We dont always have guests on our podcast, but when we do, its usually someone from our social circle who we believe can add some value to the topic of the week. We are always happy to have more guests on our show.

► How do you market your show?
For now, we've only used our socials (Twitter, Instagram) to promote the show. We haven't gone in-depth into other avenues of marketing yet. Our current podcast host, Buzzsprout, provides us a breakdown of listener acquisition sources.
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
1. Don't start one if you have nothing to say.
2. Start one even if you have nothing to say, but be honest about it.
3. If you talk about/cover multiple topics, take a moment to consider or appreciate how you're going about it. (Weaving in and out of topics)
4. If you cover multiple topics, YOU must be the brand. As in, your personality.
5. If your expertise peaks in more than one topic, consider starting another podcast. If you're a jack of all trades, you can keep one and brand your personality. If you're a master of *some*, maintain different podcasts.
6. Authenticity and Integrity are key currencies of the medium. Easy to lose, hard to regain.
