► Tell us about you and your podcast
Matt, Zap and I all went to high school together.
True Crime or compelling stories every Monday and Vintage Cinema Review every Thursday with a little humor, history, and copious consciousness We inject old school music references in mostly all of our content including our logo. If you are a fan of late 80's early 90's hip hop you will get it.
We have listeners all over the country and the world as well. Our biggest download state is Pennsylvania. A pretty even split amongst the female and male listeners of all ages.
► Why & how did you start this podcast?
A good excuse to get together weekly with 2 good friends. I drive alot for my day job so I do listen to many podcasts.
Our goal was to see what reaction we would get from people. Would they get our humor? Would they enjoy our conversations and opinions? After listening to quite a few similar shows I felt we could compete.
Our trailer launched in May of 2022.
From the inception of the idea to first episode was about 3 months
► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
We release every Monday and Thursday. From the time we pick a topic or movie to cover it takes about 2 weeks to complete writing, recording, editing, and uploading.
We mostly record in the evening and split up responsibilities. It takes all 3 of us to keep thing moving smoothly.
We spent about $2000 on equipment to start. Our fees total about $40 a month to edit and host our podcast. We are starting to get advertisements on our podcast which helps. We fund everything else out of pocket for now.
► What do you gain from podcasting?
We do not currently have any sponsors.
The benefits I believe we have received has been the pride you feel when someone reaches out to say they are loving the podcast. It is also cool to learn new facts about movies or crimes that we never knew about.
► How does your podcasting process look like?
We use a RODEcaster Pro console with Rode PodMics. I use Descript for editing and Buzzsprout for hosting and podcast distribution.
We each do our own research on the topic or movie and go over our notes before the recording process. Zap usually writes up a script and takes us through the movie or story as we record.
When we have guest they are usually in studio with us. We have taken phone interviews at times but prefer in person because of sound quality.
► How do you market your show?
I think most listeners find our show from Apple Podcasts or one of their apps but Spotify is not far behind. As of now Apple and unknown Apple apps account for about 39% of our downloads and Spotify about 28% of our total.
I have found that TikTok is the best social media for promotion for us followed by Instagram and Facebook. Our Twitter account is relatively new so time will tell with that. Listen Notes gave us a nice boost when they shared our podcast in a tweet!
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
This whole podcasting process is a slow burn and success does not happen overnight. You do not need to over edit every little thing. If the content is good people will look past a mess-up.
Using the Buzzsprout help guides and Youtube videos made figuring this thing out a little easier. Descript was a tremendous help as far as editing. Sites like Listen Notes help you see where you are ranking which gives motivation to keep at it.
