► Tell us about you and your podcast
I am a musician who finally followed my youthful music dream later in life and became a Rock Star in my 60s. I believe that everyone has a dream, but most people never pursue theirs mainly because life gets in the way. As my music is the manifestation of my dream I infuse my music into each episode. My listeners are the Dreamers out there who have a dream, want to pursue it, but need a push to do so.
► Why & how did you start this podcast?
As a musician I have many thousands of social media followers and fans. But I wanted a deeper level of relationship and I thought that the long form nature of a podcast would allow me to obtain this. I started my podcast in mid-March 2021 and already it has touched a nerve, with 20,000 downloads to date. It took about 4 weeks of preparation before I did my first interview.
► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
The podcast is, for me, the flip side of my music creativity. I try to do shows in a creative and interesting way for my listeners. I release weekly episodes, mainly interviews with people who have successfully followed their dream, but also some solo shows on topics of particular importance to me. I currently fund all the podcast expenses myself.
► What do you gain from podcasting?
Each episode features a different song of mine that relates to my guest. Being able to naturally infuse my music into each episode allows me to develop new and deeper relationships. I do not yet have any sponsors, but I would welcome sponsorships from companies that are consistent with my show's personality. We have 20,000 downloads in 2.5 months.
► How does your podcasting process look like?
I prepare for each episode by reviewing the materials supplied by my guest when the schedule an interview. I also Google my guests to confirm their information and to pick up tidbits. All the interviews are audio only via Zoom.
► How do you market your show?
I have listed my show on all the major podcast platforms, and have also done an advertising program in order to jump start the process. We have 7600 subscribers in the 2.5 months since launch. CastBox is currently our number 1 platform, followed by Apple Podcasts and Simplecast. I promote on social media and we also have an extensive email list from my music operations.
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
People advised me that the best way to grow your show is by having superior content, and I strive to do just that. I try and keep my show as creative and interesting as I can. And I listen to feedback from friends, family and others.
