► Tell us about you and your podcast
I guess I started like most. I never really considered launching a podcast. I majored in microbiology at one time in my college career, and then I changed my major to communications. I just didn't want to be in a lab all day..😆 I published my first book on Amazon when I was 50 years old, titled "Always Inspired". It did well. It was a number one in new releases. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B086R8B5BV
My podcast is a practical motivational podcast. I share anecdotes from everyday occurrences about life's experiences. The stories come from everyday people to provide inspiration to others ( we all can use a bit of this right now). My listners range between the ages 18-65. The show appeals to those who have felt overwhelmed by life, disenfranchised, and who feel like giving up. It's also has something there for individuals who just need a "Pat on the back" or an encouraging voice to help pysh through their day.
► Why & how did you start this podcast?
I launched the podcast for mainly two reasons. One, to stretch myself into an area where I would be completely uncomfortable. I wanted to learn something new. And two, I wanted a way to try and reach others like me who may not have had a stellar beginning in life and let them know their voices are heard, and they do matter. So, in a way it's kind if therapeutic for me. I guess you can say my motivation is, I didn't want others to go through the silence of feeling unheard, and voiceless. I knew I wanted to offer help to people. And launching a podcast was the best way to do it. I started my podcast really three years ago. I heard someone say "Don't waste your pain ir yoyr struggle". Right then I knew I had to do it. I launched it officially on May 17, 2021. It didn't take long fir me ti rease tbe first episode. As a matter of fact I had it recorded and ready for launch a month ahead of time.
► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
I release episodes weekly. And some times there are bonus episodes, in which I will release two epusodes the same week, but just a day or so apart. It takes about 30 min to an hour to produce an episode. This depends on if it's a video interview or just audio. I make the time for it. It's more than a hobby to me, and more than something to do on the side. I feel it's more of a calling. I do most of the work. My expenses are low. I think I spend maybe $60 a month on everything. Tes, everything right now comes out of my pocket.
► What do you gain from podcasting?
I do take sponsorship. I haven't had many yet. My first sponsor was offered to me by my show's hosting site. I'm actively looking for great sponsors. I've been live for a little over a month and I have just under 1K downloads. The downloads are pretty active and building. The show is heard in 14 countries around the world, not including here in the U.S. Podcasting build my vocabulary, my knowledge of the world around me and it makes me more aware of the people I see each day.
► How does your podcasting process look like?
I use Power Director for all my editing video and audio. I make sure ti ckean audio up and make sure my video is appealing to the eyes. I interview guests via Zoom.
► How do you market your show?
I market my shiw mainly through social media. 65% of my listeners come through Apple Podcast, 20% through Spotify, and 13% through other means such as iHeartRadio, web browser.
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
I would say, don't quit when you feel like it. And record even when you are not in the mood. Allow your listeners to hear the real authentic personality that makes you unique.
