► Tell us about you and your podcast
An Accredited Master Trainer of NLP (Neurolinguistic Programming), Trainer of Hypnotherapy, and Time Line Therapy®, Tracey excels at making complex psychological concepts accessible and practical. Her background in education enables her to explain transformative techniques in jargon-free language that resonates with diverse audiences. She is known for her specialised approach that bridges performance psychology with specific equestrian challenges. Tracey helps riders break through limitations that prevent peak performance and enjoyment.
► Why & how did you start this podcast?
Equestrians can suffer for their sport! They can experience nerves, anxiety, stress, self-doubt, maladaptive perfectionism, self-limiting beliefs and imposter syndrome, which is quite an abundance! This podcast is designed to help equestrians regain control. As a nervous competitor, Tracey has experienced the gamut of emotions and limiting beliefs that stop enjoyment and prevent us from riding the way we know we can.
Tracey's nemesis was once the oxer, a type of show-jump. Once she cracked the fear of oxers, she knew that she could help others overcome their fears and mental blocks too. Hence, the name of the podcast, Over the Oxer, which means getting over any mindset obstacle to help you ride better.
With a strong belief that mindset materials and concepts should be available to all, she embarked on this podcast in 2023. She invites guests who are industry experts to share their backstory and tips for mindset, performance and equestrianism in general.
► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
Over the Oxer is a weekly podcast, each episode is published on Tuesday and can also be found on Tracey's YouTube channel. The podcast is completely self-funded and is a true labour of love. Tracey spends time and effort sourcing guests, recording, editing and uploading each episode.
► What do you gain from podcasting?
The podcast helps more riders become more confident, and to Tracey, that's huge. With an expanding reach and being listened to in 35 countries, Over the Oxer is hopefully helping riders around the world to believe in themselves and use the tips to transform their performance through overcoming mental barriers to achieve their true potential.
► How does your podcasting process look like?
Tracey records on Zoom or Garageband and edits using Auphonic and iMovie. Before each episode, she gathers a selection of possible questions for the guests, although the conversation may take a completely different turn, which is always interesting and insightful. Tracey's guests are international, and Zoom provides a good platform for the interview.
► How do you market your show?
Around 39% of listeners use Apple, 24% Firefox and 22% Spotify. Which is a new trend, as Firefox has only recently joined the party! Tracey posts across her social media accounts on Tuesdays to let listeners and followers know what the week's new episode of Over the Oxer is all about.
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
Go for it! Many people wait for the perfect recording, perfect topic (or series of topics) and perfect guests. Tracey says to just get out there; you can record solo episodes until you have guests. She recommends getting in touch with Teri Holland of Success in Mind and joining one of her podcast bootcamps to get you started within a week of the course.
