► Tell us about you and your podcast
The podcast documents my personal journey post-divorce and my mission to crack the code to dating in the 21st century. I test online dating apps, interview dating, and relationship experts, and volunteer as tribute trying anything and everything to find my "unicorn." Spoiler alert, during this process, I manifest my dream man. My mission is to teach others how to do the same!
My listeners are women who've been through a divorce, are getting divorced, or are single and have not found their person yet. These women are working on bettering themselves, their mindset, and recognizing that the inner work is where it's at!
► Why & how did you start this podcast?
I was approached by Pod Sound School to start my podcast. Prior to meeting them, I did not listen to podcasts. Fast forward to today, I'm obsessed. I listen to podcasts every day, have my favorite, and love the intimacy that's created between the host and the listener.
My initial goal remains my goal today. If sharing my life like an open book, my knowledge, and my experience helps one person then my bucket is full. My passion is helping women.
I started my podcast on October 1st, 2019.
Not long, I released the trailer in September of 2019 and batch recorded the first 3 episodes introducing myself to my audience and also setting the foundation for why I started the podcast.
► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
I release new episodes every Tuesday at 4 PM PST. Producing an episode is way more involved than people think. If it's a solocast, I write and research the topic. Then I record, make editing considerations, draft the necessary copy (episode summary and notes), create cover art, and promote. If it's a guest interview I adhere to the same process, but also secure my own guest, and record a separate intro and closing. I prefer that style and structure.
When I had a traveling corporate job, I would record sometimes at 4 AM. When something is important to you, you make it happen!
I do fund the podcast myself. I will be honest, it's challenging. I don't have a budget to advertise so all of my efforts are grassroot, organic.
I have a Patreon, YSC Unfiltered, where I post bonus content and the membership fees I receive from my YSC Girl Gang and Guy Tribe I use to offset costs (host site, editing, graphic design, etc). I am currently working toward manifesting ways to monetize the podcast (sponsorships, partnerships, advertising, etc).
► What do you gain from podcasting?
I would love to have some sponsors: Hinge, Bumble, Fab Fit Fun, LA Chargers are among the brands/companies I'd love to work with! I have not secured a sponsor yet.
Podcasting has been life-changing for me. I've made so many friends from the podcasting community, aka my podern family. I've helped countless men and women which is the most rewarding. I love receiving DMs or emails from listeners sharing their own experiences and how I helped them with something they're currently going through. My podcast is also responsible for my relationship. My boyfriend saw I had a podcast, listened to the last episode of 2020. He decided he wanted to do something to stand out and proceeded to send me a six-minute voice note via email, a minute-long video via DM, and a text to ensure I saw both. We captured our "how we met" story on the podcast, I Manifested A Unicorn. We're in love. How crazy is that?!
► How does your podcasting process look like?
I use Riverside to record, Simplecast to host, my website is on Squarespace. I'm not a very tech-savvy person but I've been able to get by with help from Pod Sound School and YouTube! Now I have people who reach out to be on my show, but in the beginning, I would approach dating experts, coaches, authors, anyone who piqued my interest. My avatar listener is a version of myself, so I knew if I found them interesting so would my listeners.
I select a theme and then build the episode around that. In Season 3 I'm focused on claiming more in life, whether that be in your relationship with yourself, with others, or in life in general. I do not prepare my interview questions ahead of time. I really like the conversation to be raw and as if we're all at happy hour together just chatting away.
My interviews are conducted on Riverside so I can see my guest and capture both video and audio.
► How do you market your show?
Listeners find my show organically, through friend referrals and social media. 69% of my listeners come from Apple Podcasts. My website: www.youresuchacatch.com is the second preferred platform to listen on followed by Spotify and then other ancillary players.
I have pretty high engagement from my community on Instagram. I make a lot of audiograms that provide a glimpse into the episode and what the show is about. I also do a lot of guest spots on other people's shows. This is helpful if we are in similar niches.
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
I highly encourage anyone to start a podcast! I think we all have a voice, something to share and it's up to us to get it out into the world. So my biggest piece of advice would be, just do it!
One of the hardest lessons I've learned is the people you think will be your biggest supporters may never even tune in. That's a hard one especially when you're pouring your heart and soul into something BUT what I will say is, the beautiful thing is you'll meet people on your journey who were strangers who become close friends because they do tune in and you develop this insane bond and connection to them.
I will add that the podcast community is fabulous. Everyone helps one another and shares their knowledge and expertise. It's a true family.
We're all figuring it out together!
Pod Sound School has been my biggest resource and help.
