► Tell us about you and your podcast
I am an educator and life long learner with a diversity of experience in the field of education including curriculum development, classroom teaching, inclusive education, and as an academic engagement facilitator. I have also spent 4 years as a sessional instructor in the Werklund School of Education at the University of Calgary and was honoured to be a 2021 recipient of an Excellence in Practicum Supervision Award. I am the owner of Tiana Fech Consulting which uses a relationship-centred approach to help businesses create learning experiences that inspire, engage, and connect with their clients, customers, and communities. I call Calgary home but have mentored and supported clients across North America with course and corporate training program coaching, consulting, and audits. My vision is to have people be a the forefront of all teaching and learning experiences in schools, businesses, and beyond.
The People Teaching People Podcast is the place to talk about all things teaching and learning. This podcast dives into how education truly plays an important and integral role in all facets of our lives – how we work, do business, live, play, explore, and build relationships. Get curious and be inspired by personal reflections and conversations about the who, what, when, where, why, and how of teaching and learning in a world where there is always more to discover.
My listeners are primarily female between the ages of 25-74 years old and many of these listeners are small business owners. Most of my listeners are from Canada but I also have listeners in the United States, France, Australia, Belgium, Germany, Singapore, the United Kingdom and beyond!

► Why & how did you start this podcast?
I started my podcast as a way to build conversation, community, and connection. I started podcasting just before the world shut down with the global pandemic and this proved to be the biggest blessing! I got to have amazing conversations with incredible guests such as Catriona Le May Doan and Meaghan Mikkelson. I actually rebranded my podcast in the fall of 2022. I started my podcast in February 2020 - it was called "The Part-Time Jungle Podcast" and it was all about the juggle of motherhood and work. I shifted the focus of my podcast to better align with my passion for education and my new course consulting business that I launched in the spring of 2021. In starting my podcast, I was a part of a small group of women learning how to podcast with the help of a mentor. From idea to launch, it took about 4 months to release my first podcast episode. The learning curve was steep so it helped to have a community of support getting started. I love to listen to podcasts particularly when I am doing other things like going for a walk, on a long drive, or while cleaning bathrooms! I find podcasts to be a great way to learn, to be entertained, and to be inspired.

► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
I release episodes biweekly from the beginning of September until the end of June. Although I have streamlined many processes, having a podcast takes a lot of time! A year ago, I hired a podcast editor who edits my audio, writes my show notes, and pulls quotes and video and audio clips that I can use for social media. This has been so helpful! Even with this support, producing an episode takes me at 5-7 hours. This includes planning a script, recording the episode, preparing social media posts, posting to my website and sending out an email to my email list, and posting to social media. I have to be very intentional to block off time to complete these tasks and this is why a biweekly episode schedule works best for me. Currently, I have no funding for my podcast but this is definitely something that I will be actively investigating this year! My podcast costs me $3000/year not including the investment of my own time.
► What do you gain from podcasting?
I have not had any sponsorship or financial support of my podcast at this time. I am actually unsure of my downloads as my podcast hosting company does not have the most accurate statistics. On ListenNotes, I have a Listen Score of 34% and a Global Rank of the top 3%. Podcasting has been a powerful way to build relationships (and friendships!) and has created client opportunities for my course development consulting business. I have worked with clients who first learned about me though my podcast! I also love the storytelling aspect of my podcast and how it is an opportunity for me to learn so many incredible things from my podcast guests.
► How does your podcasting process look like?
Tools that have helped me to streamline my podcasting experiences are: Riverside.FM (for recording), Calendly (for booking recordings), Google Forms (for gathering guest information), Canva (for designing social media graphics), Headliner (for creating audiograms and videograms for social media), Descript (for editing both podcast video and audio), and Blubrry (to host my podcast as it connects easily to my WordPress website using the PowerPress plugin). I either ask people if they would be interested in being guests or sometimes I have people reach out to me or their "representatives" reach out to me. I am very thoughtful about how the guest aligns with the messaging/focus of my podcast and the value that they will bring to my listener community. For each episode, I have podcast guests complete a Podcast Guest Questionnaire (Google Form) where they provide their social media info, images that I can use to promote the episode on social media, their bio, question ideas for our conversation, and a link to book a podcast recording date and time through Calendly. From this form, I prepare some a script (guiding questions for our conversation) and send these to my guests in advance of the recording. I interview guests using the Riverside.FM platform.
► How do you market your show?
Most of my listeners listen to my podcast on Apple Podcasts and 86% of my listeners access my podcast by Mobile Applications. I use a "SmartLink" from Chartable to easily share all the different platforms that my podcast can be found. I am currently sharing my podcast on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, TikTok, Pinterest, email, and with a blog post on my website. I am currently finding the most engagement with my posts on Instagram and LInkedIn but I have been having growing engagement on TikTok. With my recent rebrand, I am paying attention to which channels are the most useful and then, will move to focusing more of my energy on these.
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
My advice for aspiring (new) podcasters is to just go for it! The early days can feel uncomfortable with lots to learn but if a 40+ year old mom of 3 can start a podcast, I know that you can too! Ask questions and ask for help. There are many resources out there as well as people who would be more than happy to help you troubleshoot any challenges that come up. My podcast editor, Simona Costantini, hosts a podcast called "As It Relates to Podcasting" that I would highly recommend! I am a part of the OSSA Collective - a community of female podcasters - that I love as well!
