► Tell us about you and your podcast
Nyrdcast is a platform to discuss pop culture, interview interesting people, and talk with friends.
► Why & how did you start this podcast?
We started as a way to voice our opinions on pop culture after hearing some podcast opinions we didn't agree with. I'm a huge podcast fan, subscribing to over 30 different podcasts. I think it's a great way to get your voice heard and interact with others. We started almost 3 years ago.
► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
I typically have to record after my kids go to bed because I try to limit its impact on family time. I'm tying to get 2-3 episodes live per week. I've hosted my own websites for almost 8 years, so I don't really notice the cost any more.
► What do you gain from podcasting?
I take sponsorships, but I haven't made any money from it. The sponsorships have been more cross-promotion types rather than paid.
► How does your podcasting process look like?
I have started recording the podcast itself, then doing the intro/outro after I edit it. Many times I will use Skype for interviews, but have done a few in person interviews as well. I typically write out a list of topics or questions to go through. I reach out to places I go (breweries) or via social media to get guests.
► How do you market your show?
Mainly social media; I push my episodes to every platform I can join.
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
Learn the trade before worrying about making money. Get the equipment, make connections, learn the process.
