► Tell us about you and your podcast
The Sports 2000 podcast is the home of SRCC Sports 2000 Racing Car Club. I'm the host, Sue Stockdale and I take you behind the scenes of this UK sports car prototype series talking to the drivers, sponsors, and supporters who make the Creative Funding Sports 2000 Championship one of motorsports' most exciting championships to watch, and race in.
► Why & how did you start this podcast?
Established in 1977, the Sports 2000 Championship has gone from strength to strength as the British National Championship for Duratecs and Pintos.
This podcast began just before the 2021 season began for the Sports 2000 championship with the aim of creating a bigger community of people who are interested in motorsport, and sports car prototype racing in particular. Sports 2000 is often described as 'motorsports best kept secret' because there is a really friendly vibe between those competing and supporting the drivers, and its best value in terms of speed versus money spent.
When listeners get a better understanding of what's involved and know more about the drivers, they are more likely to be go and chat to them in the paddock at a race meeting, or go along to a circuit to watch a race because they have discovered more about the category, the cars and the drivers.
► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
Support for the podcast comes from Broad Town Brewery – the microbrewery in Wiltshire with big ambitions. www.broadtownbrewery.co.uk and is produced by Sue Stockdale. www.suestockdale.com
► What do you gain from podcasting?
There has been a great level of interest in the first few episodes and from May it will be published each month prior to one of the Sports 2000 championship races. It has enabled those in the Sports 2000 community and those interested in it, to learn more about it, and to find out more about the personalities involved.
► How does your podcasting process look like?
We use Squadcast to record the episodes to ensure a high quality of audio, and then editing is done via our sound editor, Matias who is based in Argentina. Guests are a mix of drivers, sponsors and supporters of the Sports 2000 community.
► How do you market your show?
We are using Spreaker to distribute our show to all the major podcasting platforms, and the most popular downloads are from Apple Podcasts (60%) and Spotify (30%). There are also marketing channels via social media (Instagram, Twitter, WhatsApp) so its great how the motorsport community has helped to spread the word.
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
It is just as important to produce high quality content as it is to have an audience for your content, so make sure you are paying attention to both aspects.
