► Tell us about you and your podcast
I battled with binge eating disorder for over two decades. My first binge happened my first semester in college and in that moment, surrounded by candy wrappers, I was determined to figure out what was wrong with me and how to stop. The problem was that I went about it in the wrong way. I suffered for decades and I didn't have to. Now that I understand why I wasn't able to stop, I want to help as many people as possible understand that they aren't broken. There is a perfectly good reason why people feel out of control around food.
My listeners are smart, successful people who have felt out of control with food for years. They feel like they've tried everything to overcome their disordered eating. Many of them have been in treatment, and have experienced short periods of success, but not the lasting freedom they desire. They know that it's possible, but they haven't quite found the missing piece that will allow them to experience true freedom and trust with food and with themselves.

► Why & how did you start this podcast?
I initially wanted to start a podcast in 2015. I love listening to podcasts and I received a lot of help and support from other podcasters on the subject. I wasn't ready to put myself out there and was still in the midst of my food freedom journey, so I kept listening, learning, and applying what I heard to my own situation. Once I discovered the missing pieces for me, I knew I was ready to share this information with whoever wanted to listen. I published my first episode on November 23, 2022. My goal is for anyone who feels out of control around food to know that they aren't broken. That there is a perfectly good reason why they do what they do with food, and that food freedom and body trust are available to anyone, no matter how long they have been struggling or what they've tried. I want them to know that there is hope and that they can truly have the relationship with food and with themselves that they crave.

► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
I release a new episode each Wednesday. It takes approximately 2 hours per episode to draft, record, and do the social media. I hire a team (Go Confidently Services) to help me with the editing process. They offered to teach me how to do it myself, but that's not something that I want to do, so I am happy to pay them for a result that would be better than if I did it on my own. I fund the podcast as a part of the marketing expenses for my business.
► What do you gain from podcasting?
My primary goal for this podcast is to reach the countless number of people who are struggling with feeling out of control around food. It is a way that I can provide free support to anyone who needs it. I do not plan to solicit sponsorship for this podcast. This is a strong personal preference for me in listening to and producing podcast content. Podcasting benefits me in so many ways - new people become familiar with me and what I have to offer, I learn new ways of teaching and explaining concepts, and hearing from others helps me to understand what people want to hear about and where I might be able to improve upon or expand upon what I am teaching.
► How does your podcasting process look like?
I record each episode in GarageBand on my Mac, and share it with my podcast editing team as a .wav file. After editing, it is uploaded to Buzzsprout, which pushes the episode out to all of the major podcast platforms. The show is primarily teaching with no outside interviews as of now. I prepare each episode with a general outline and expand upon the outline as I record.
► How do you market your show?
My listeners find my show primarily from searching within their podcast player, seeing my posts on social media, or knowing me from other platforms and resources. Currently 64% of my downloads are on Apple Podcasts. I also use email, Facebook and Instagram as marketing channels.
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
If you have the desire to start a podcast, it's very easy to overthink things. Get some general information, make some basic decisions and get started! There are lots of resources out there to help you determine those initial decisions and who can support you along the way. There will never be a perfect time to do it, but if you have something you want to share with the world - go out and do it! A commitment to consistency and showing up over time while adjusting as you go will serve you well in all aspects of life - podcasting and beyond!
