► Tell us about you and your podcast
My name is Scott Everhart and I host the Scott Talks Tech podcast. Its a show about the technology industry that is for those that are new to the tech space.
This podcast is designed for new graduates or anyone that has changed careers into the technology industry.
► Why & how did you start this podcast?
I have been in the technology space for 20+ years. Late last year I realized that I have a lot to offer that could be of value to those new to the industry and allow them to get up to speed faster. In late November, I recorded and published my first episode. It was all about me. Who I am, what my experience was, and how I can provide value to my listeners.
► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
This is a one man show. I am the host, studio techs, post production analysts, and bankroll. I typically work on an episode during the week and record on Friday, edit on Saturday, and pre-publish and market on Sunday to have the episode available on Monday morning (EST).
I have a total monthly expenditure of $12 for my hosting. I paid for all the other recording and hosting tech out of pocket and use a lot of open source software for editing.
► What do you gain from podcasting?
I went into this with the goal of providing valuable information to those new to the tech space. I don't currently do sponsorships.
I get satisfaction from know that I am providing value to new techies. Also, being known as someone that helps others is a great thing.
► How does your podcasting process look like?
I use audacity as my editor. I have a zoom recorder and audio-technica mic that I use for most of my recording.
The guests that I plan on interviewing are from my experience in the industry. Later, I plan on looking outside my current circle for interviewees.
I am going to use zencastr for my remote interviews and the zoom recorder for in-person interviews.
► How do you market your show?
I market on all the social channels and it is available on all the major directories.
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
Have a solid concept and make sure that your space is not over-populated. I struggle with growing my audience because it seems like everyone has a tech podcast. I use a lot of the buzzsprout advice from their blogs and youtube videos. Also, Pat Flynn's youtube channel has a lot of valuable advice.
