► Tell us about you and your podcast
Long time Human Resources executive, consultant, entrepreneur and thought leader. Love talking about how making the right business decisions make the best outcomes for our employees. Our listeners are HR practitioners and leaders.
► Why & how did you start this podcast?
We love to podcast because we have lots of friends inside and outside the world of human resources that can bring some interesting ways of doing things that practitioners might find value in. We started during the pandemic, but really took off in mid 2021.
► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
This is a labor of love. We do podcasting as a way of giving back to the HR world. My employer covers the cost of the production of the podcast, but they derive value from the thought leadership it brings.
► What do you gain from podcasting?
I just love talking about these subjects. I get a thrill when someone says... "I love your podcast and what you talk about means something to me." We have a loyal following and love our listeners. Everything we do, we do for them.
► How does your podcasting process look like?
We use Macs, Riverside.fm, Rodecaster II, Shure SM7B mics, and lots of LED signs. I love podcasting in person and then can use my Zoom H6 with my Behringer mics.
► How do you market your show?
LinkedIn is the main channel for distribution since that's where our audience members go for thought leadership. We try other platforms, but mostly LI.
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
Take your time. Focus on ONE thing. Do not try to solve world peace in your podcast, unless that's what it's about. Focus on one audience and develop a topic around your passion. Going to the broad will lose your audience, again, unless you are super famous and no one cares about the topic area, they just want to hear from you.
Also, podcasting is not cheap. Doing crappy podcasts is cheap. Polishing and making it listenable, that takes resources, time and money.
Lastly, this is not a field of dreams... if you build it, they will not come unless you market the crap out of it.
► Where can we learn more about you & your podcasts?
hrdatalabs.com is the merch store with links to the podcast and the rest. HRDataDoodles.com is the website for the companion books. That is a fun project too.
