► Tell us about you and your podcast
Hi! We are Cameron, Sylvia and Victoria!
Cameron and Sylvia were born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona and Victoria was born in Chicago, Illinois. We are best friends that hang out every weekend. We can be kind of random lol, one weekend we may be out and about (prior to COVID-19) and the next we will spend three days playing Mario Cart and board games like Resistance (due to us not trusting each other after playing this game, we decided to never play it again lol) We each have a different background and different opinions so we decided to put our time and effort into creating a podcast!
Our listeners are people that love True Crime and Supernatural cases. We believe the also have a great sense of humor!
► Why & how did you start this podcast?
It was very interesting how starting a podcast came about. We all listened to podcasts pretty much everyday. One weekend on a trip home from West Hollywood we were in the car and we were listening to a true crime podcast together when we looked at each other and said "these are great, but they are so serious" and "We should do this". We decided to put our time and efforts into creating a podcast. Our goal was to create something that was fun for us and allowed us to be creative whether or not people actually wanted to listen lol!
Each of us bring something vital to the podcast that no one even realized in the beginning.
Sylvia is a marketing guru and does all of our social media content, creates our logos and makes sure we are aesthetically pleasing!
Victoria is a true crime enthusiast that knows a lot about law enforcement and is so knowledgeable about the true crime universe!
Cameron has an education in audio engineering and anything technical so he sets up when we record, does all of the editing and handles all of the hosting and posting episodes.
We started our podcast in February 2020.
From deciding to do a podcast to writing, recording and posting out first episode it was about a month!
► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
During our first season we only posted one episode a week, but for season two we wanted to add another layer which was documented supernatural events! so we decided to move to posting two times a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays!
It typically takes us 2-3 hours to set up and record which we do on Saturdays and the first episode is edited on Monday and scheduled to post on Tuesday. The second episode is edited on Wednesday and scheduled to post on Thursday.
Editing a one hour episode typically takes two hours and the episode ends up being around 45-50 minutes
It is not super hard for us to find time because we are literally together every weekend so we decided to give up out weekends at the club lol to stay home and record.
The cost to run a podcast is definitely dependent on the quality of content you want to put out.
Hosting the podcast, we pay around $20.00/month.
Editing software: $300.00.
Equipment (Microphones, Boom stands, Recording Device) $1600.00.
When we started we recorded in a studio which was 75.00 an hour, but we decided to invest in our own equipment so we could just do it ourselves.
We do fund everything ourselves!
► What do you gain from podcasting?
We do not have any sponsors, but we are open to them so hit us up lol!
It think while the end goal is to be able to earn money for our content, right now we are enjoying spending time together and being creative!
► How does your podcasting process look like?
For tools we use:
Buzzsprout for hosting: buzzsprout.com/?referrer_id=874501
Adobe Audition: amzn.to/3gvcc72
Equipment
Rodecaster Pro: amzn.to/3jkaac1
Shure SM7B
We have had one guest and due to the pandemic we decided to to a virtual interview via zoom!
► How do you market your show?
We mainly market on social media sites like Instagram and Facebook by promoting out content for a couple of days!
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
Our best piece of advice is you don't need a full production studio to create a podcast. If you have great content all you really need is your phone to record. There is always someone out there that will want to listen to you! If it ever stops becoming fun and starts becoming work it might be time to reevaluate!
There are a lot of resources out there that will give you a plan but, customize it to fit how you want. To us there is no one right way to start a podcast.
