► Tell us about you and your podcast
Hi! I’m Daniel M. from The Randomizer. The Randomizer is a podcast for anyone who doesn’t want to be bored! Every week, I release a new episode where we talk about random facts and information.
► Why & how did you start this podcast?
I started my podcast when I was bored and first found out about my podcasting host Anchor. I never thought I’d take it seriously, but very quickly I was hooked. A few episodes in, I got a new microphone and I was able to bring my listeners more high quality episodes. And ever since that June day, I was hooked with podcasting.
► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
It was the summer of 2020, and so like many people I had a lot of time on my hands. As I’ve said previously, I never thought I’d take it seriously, so I recorded my first episodes on my phone with a pair of Apple earbuds. I think it was the 3rd episode when I got my microphone, it was a $50 Tonor microphone which had excellent quality. Aside from that, the only other thing that I’ve paid money for was my new podcast art, which was $5. Overall, I think that $55 was a great spend, since I am able to enjoy podcasting more, and my listener can enjoy the quality.
► What do you gain from podcasting?
I think that sponsorship is a great thing for podcasters like me, where we are able to get a few dollars on the side from doing what we love. Obviously, the money I’ve made from my episodes isn’t a lot, but it’s nice to know that it’s there. I got my first sponsorship from Anchor, because they help sponsor you when you first start off. I’ve not been found by any new sponsors yet, but I’m always open to working with a sponsor. Podcasting has benefited me by greatly decreasing the amount of time I’m bored. If I have nothing to do, I make a podcast episode. Especially in these uneasy times, it’s just great to have a podcast.
► How does your podcasting process look like?
I use a Tonor microphone to record my episodes, and that is pretty much the only main tool I use. Software-wise, I use Audacity and import my audio to Anchor. The guests I interview I either know personally, or I find a person who’s work I love, and try to see if we can collaborate. When I have a guest, we either meet through call or we script the episode together and send one another our audio files. I script my podcast using Google Docs and I recommend it for anyone who wants to start podcasting.
► How do you market your show?
I don’t use any marketing channel yet... but word of mouth marketing has really been useful. I tell someone about my show, who then tells someone else, and then that person tells two others, and so on.
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
I would say to first choose a topic you love, next to do some research, and third is to be consistent. Those are the main points of advice I have. I would also recommend Pat Flynn’s YouTube channel because he talks a lot about starting podcasting and more. If you would like to reach out to me, feel free to send me an email (therandomizer.podcast@gmail.com). Thanks!
