I'm Kris Jones, a StoryBrand certified guide and marketing strategist with 23+ years of experience crafting stories for brands including Nike. I'm the founder of Red Door Stories, where I help coaches, consultants, financial advisors, and service providers build brand messaging that actually attracts their dream clients.
From Click to Client is a podcast for service-based business owners who know they're good at what they do, but feel like their website and marketing aren't working hard enough. Each episode breaks down how to use the StoryBrand framework to fix your messaging, improve your website, and turn more visitors into paying clients.
Our listeners are established female entrepreneurs — primarily coaches, consultants, and service providers aged 45-59 — who are serious about growing their businesses. They've been at this a while and they know they need better messaging, not more tactics.
► Why & how did you start this podcast?
I've always been obsessed with storytelling and the way a well-crafted message can change how someone feels about a business. After years of doing this work for major brands, I started noticing that coaches and consultants I knew personally were struggling with the same problem — they had real expertise but their websites weren't communicating it clearly.
I'm a big podcast listener myself, and podcasting felt like the right format to share real examples, walk through real websites, and have honest conversations about what's working in marketing for service businesses. I started the show in late 2024 and now publish weekly.
► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
Podcasting fits into my business because it IS my business — the show is a direct extension of the work I do with clients. I record and edit myself using Descript, and I keep episodes focused and actionable so production stays manageable. Episodes run 20-40 minutes and the whole production process takes about 3-4 hours. I self-fund through my coaching and consulting business, Red Door Stories.
► What do you gain from podcasting?
The podcast builds trust with potential clients before they ever reach out. Listeners who find me through the show are already warm — they understand my approach and are pre-sold on the StoryBrand methodology. I don't currently have sponsors, but that's a future consideration as the show grows. The main gain right now is qualified inbound leads who already understand what they need.
► How does your podcasting process look like?
I record interviews via Zoom and solo episodes from my home studio. I edit using Descript and host on Spotify for Creators. I find guests primarily through referrals, my professional network, and other podcasters in the StoryBrand and marketing space. I prepare by reviewing a guest's website and content beforehand so I can ask specific, useful questions rather than generic ones.
► How do you market your show?
62% of my listeners are on Apple Podcasts, so that's where I focus most of my promotion. Episode launches are promoted through my email list, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Facebook. The most effective channel for new listener discovery has been organic podcast search — people searching StoryBrand, brand messaging, and website marketing terms find the show that way. I also appear as a guest on other podcasts to reach new audiences.
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
Don't wait until it's perfect. The first episode is always awkward — just get it out. Second: be clear about who your podcast is for before you record a single episode. Vague shows get vague audiences. Know exactly who you're talking to and what problem you're solving for them. Treat your podcast title and description as SEO — keywords matter more than most podcasters realize.
