► Tell us about you and your podcast
Our podcast name is The Music That Made America.
Our cohost is Jordy Schwartzman, Jacob Kramer, and Noah Schwartz. We started this podcast because we really love rock and we want to share the stories of the artists we love to the world, so the world can love the artists as much as us.
Our listeners are people who want to know more about Rock N Roll.
► Why & how did you start this podcast?
We wanted to start a podcast because the concept of being able to learn just by listening to a quick 10-30 minute podcast is extraordinary. We use to listen to podcasts beforehand and doing so keeps us motivated.
Our initial goals were to change people's minds about Rock. We stay motivated because what we do is fun. We love to learn about these amazing artists and we want to share our knowledge.
We started our podcast in April with the goal of changing the world of music for the better.
It took us a couple of months because we were in school and we weren't with each other, so during the summer, we were able to produce our episodes.
► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
We release an episode every 2 weeks. It takes us about a week to produce each episode.
We find the time on weekends when we have off and after work at night. As well as getting bits and pieces of research during breaks.
Honestly, we don't know how much money we have spent. We each bought microphones and we got someone to make some art for our podcast. we could say north of $200. So far we spent our own money, yet the program we use to publish our podcast, Anchor has a sponsorship program where we get $15 per mile.
► What do you gain from podcasting?
We do take sponsorships, we do plan to donate our earnings.
Our first sponsorship is by anchor and is given to everyone who uses anchor. We had zero downloads per month.
We are clueless about finding sponsorships today, so the help we get from Listen Notes is amazing.
Currently, we have around 120 downloads per month.
Podcasting benefits learning, patience, hard work, friendship, and business.
► How does your podcasting process look like?
We first start by deciding who we would like to research. This could be off the top of our head, or from a playlist, we have of songs we like. Next, we go to biographies and start writing information we have on a google document we use. This google document has all the research we have ever done. Then we look to see if we can find a guess by a certain due date. We then record then use discord to call and we record the podcast using obs. Afterward, we trim some audio from the beginning and the end. We send that over to Anchor where we add our sponsored segment and some opening and closing music. After uploading, we promote ourselves on a variety of Facebook groups.
We find guests to interview using Listen Notes.
► How do you market your show?
We have our podcast on almost every major program.
A breakdown of where people listen include, 50% other, 33% Apple Podcasts, 8% Anchor, and 7% Spotify.
Yet, we promote to Apple Podcasts.
We find Facebook the most useful marketing channel.
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
